Large Mystery Oil Leak only After Shut Down front passenger side

Hi, my first post.

Have a 1973 911T. After shut-down, and overnight, it will leak a stream about 3 inches wide and 1-1/2 feet long. Had a fellow that is considered the best Porsche mechanic (always subjective there...so don't want to offend anyone) :-) in Santa Clara County, CA. He says it's the cam tower. I've eliminated the following: 1) Triangle of death all ok, 2) S hose ok. 3) Top oil tank hose ok. I have not eliminated the oil cooler yet. I just want to be sure that I look at everything that it could be before pulling and going after cam towers etc.

Has anyone had this kind of big mystery leak?

you need to completely degrease and hose off the engine to get it clean,

then do a fresh check of the oil leak and post a pic.

some people will tell you to clean and look for the oil leak.
For me ,if you could take a pictures before the wash and I will tell you where is the oil leak coming from..take a picture under the engine and front bottom..

not you again.

all you are doing is causing confusion for the guy.

now he has 2 people telling him 2 different things, good job.
I would have left it alone if YOU replied first because its not worth the time to argue with you over how to find an oil leak,

have at it with your 40 years of oil leak experience,.

BTW I went to the factory Porsche oil leak locating diagnostic school for dummies. it was a year long school and the only one ever held.

dude take it easy ....oil leaks could be detected both ways.....nothing to get upset about;-)

Nobody is confused, only you since you are suggesting it.....it is definitively easier to see an oil leak when dirty because it leaves the trail .If you clean it no trail is visible.....

if you get upset what i write it is only your problem .I am not telling you that you are wrong....

I did not have to go to school for dummies i vent to pro`s school for 5 years, the rest is just work....

p.s. i thought you work at the airport;-)??

Ty,

I completely agree with you. But Ivan is located in Europe and the time zone difference is a significant factor. I don’t believe Ivan intentionally wanted to over ride your suggestion. That was my first reaction after reading his post. But I don’t believe it is the case.

Both of you have good intentions to help the OP solve his problem. So let’s calm down and relax. People will appreciate our help if we avoid bickering. Don’t shoot the messenger because I fall into this fault more often than you guys.

Tony

to tudham..if the cam tower would be leaking is either the 1.camshaft cover O ring and triangle gasket.2.the guide pin which holds the swivel gear inside..but all this could be just these 2 things on the picture......dripping down on the tower

again the best would be if you take some pics....

Ivan

p.s. Tony you are correct....

Use oil dye and a black light. That’s the modern way to find leaks, approved by the vast majority of manufacturers. Buy a dye kit that comes with the black light and glasses, put the dye in the oil tank, then run the engine for awhile. The leak will have a bright yellow streak, while the pre dye leaks won’t show.
