Oil Cooler

My 1985 has always a little hotter than I like, decided to blow it out with compressed air. A lot of dust, sand, and bugs came out. The car is now running much cooler even with the AC on.

Thx for the observation/tip -- If you still see/have any temp issues, you can (relatively easily) retrofit the oil cooler fan that porsche added to carreras starting in the 1987 model year

Concur. A slimmer and more modern fan is another alternative if you're not concerned about originality. American Volt sells a 6" version that fits very well and moves 700CFM. I'm guessing that's a higher number than the original fan.

I have heard whispers of a more modern oil cooler with the same dimensions of the factory Carrera cooler. It's said to cool oil more efficiently, and can be used for larger displacement aircooled motors. Is this possible? Does anyone have info on this other than myth?

Thanks for the info on the fan GeorgeM. Several choices of higher capacity if this one does not work:

I added a fan to my 85 Carrera. I put it on a toggle switch, so if I see the oil temp up to 210, on comes the fan. It helps a lot in slow moving traffic, and even on the highway at 75 MPH on a long cruise in really hot conditions of 100+ air temps.

I just added the American Volt 6" fan to my 86. This is the one with the shroud. I eliminated my front condenser so I connected this fan to condenser blower wiring. It comes on when the AC is turned on.
