AC blower motor/fan

Hello fellow Pelicans,

I am in need of some advise and guidance. I would like to replace the AC motor/fan or both due to loud noise when turned on as well as a new development...sparks shooting out of the center lower AC vent. Kinda scary.

The first of many questions;

1) where to get either parts?
2) Is there a good "how to" on this subject?

Below is a previous thread I jumped in and stole for a few questions.

Noisy front condensor blower

Thanks in advance,
D

D -- the Griffiths/Kuehl references in this and the thread you linked above are for this https://griffiths.com/porsche/air-conditioning/911-930/ -- Kuehl/Griffiths has "cracked the code" for our 911 ac needs and produces parts that are better than stock and help get the most possible out of our ac systems.

If you can consider used parts - look on this forum's classifieds section - or place a WTB (Want To Buy) ad.

If you want an improved AC experience, get his upgraded fan kit. If you have an 85 or older 911 the installation is fairly straight forward. It is a bigger physically fan motor, and blows more air. It is not the cheap way, but it is nice to have more air. For later models you have to source the old style fan top.

He also sells a variable fan speed controller kit. A bit more complex, but he has pretty good instructions. And great tech support.

Just ordered part...
https://griffiths.com/product/91162490600-porsche-evaporator-blower-assembly/

and apparently, it's really simply to replace. I have an '88 911.

I have an '88...

does this "upgraded fan kit" apply? If so, I didn't see that option.

If I have an '88, does this require me to source the older style fan top and then get the "upgraded fan kit" for the older style?

And this older style upgrade is better than the newer style currently in my car?

Thanks,
D

Got one of Griff's motors for my evaporator a few years back. Way nicer than stock and worth the money. You will not be disappointed in fit or quality and, as mentioned, Charlie's support is great.
