Installing a Targa Hard Top

Has anyone ever installed a targa hard too into a targa that doesn’t have the holes/attachment points in the top of the windshield?

I have a hard top that fits my 1985 targa, but I don’t have the holes in the top of my windshield in order to secure it with the latches.

I don’t know if the holes are under the vinyl or not (I suspect not, though).

Has anyone modified the top of their windshield in order to allow a targa hard top to latch properly?

Thanks.

LS

Not sure I understand. If you don't have the latch receivers on the top of your windshield, how did you secure your folding Targa top? Pictures?

Did you buy the proper escutcheons to install?
My 78 had the holes in the upper windshield frame so it was just a matter of cutting the vinyl, installing some screw spring clips for the screws, and installing the escutcheons.

I’m not sure when Porsche stopped punching the holes in the frame.
To find the holes, I installed the top, located the latch points that are different spacing than the soft top ones, and pushed on the vinyl to find the holes behind.

Hope that helps a little.

Mark,
It is a totally different latch system on the hard tops.
Angled spring clip that latches to the windshield frame down from the top of the frame.

Thanks, Dennis. I’ll try locating the holes in the frame with the hard top on the car. I do have the escutcheons, etc for the frame.

Dreichman, I’ll post some pictures as soon as I can.

Thanks.

Thanks Dennis. I didn't realize that. Now I understand we're talking about installing a hard top on a later car when the hard tops were NLA.
