Performance Products?
Does anyone have any experience with a company called Performance Products? I just ordered some Weltmiester airbox straps online for a test run. I want to get a RS carpet kit (which they offer $279.99) but before I do I'd like to know if they are legit.
|
They are very legit.
They have several lines of parts. I have ordered serveral parts for my Toyota and Porsche from them. The also are very easy on returns. I thing shipping is free right now also. Tom. |
they're pelicans competition;)
not much competition imho. personally i dont use them any more -too much agro from uk. i stick to pelican mostly if i order from the states......... |
I order pelican wherever possible but they don't carry certian things that performance does. I just got an order from Perforamce of stainless steel piston calipers.
Use pelican when you can, this BBS makes it all worth it.. ohh and I've never had better customer service either :D |
I bought from performance products back in the 60's...they've been around a long time.
|
They have a pretty nice catalog, but not the best prices. They're a reputable shop, though.
|
I have returned about half the stuff I've bought from them - Wayne has better prices, and doesn't sell JUNK.
Case in point - I bought some heat exchangers, and they arrived coated in 1/8" thick paint with so many drips and numerous large dents. The dents were painted over, so it didn't occur in shipping. Took 2 weeks to negotiate a proper return, in spite of my calling about 5 minutes after UPS dropped them at my doorstep. In the same order I also bought muffler supporting straps. Neither strap was the same length, inspite of being the same part number. One was too short to fit, so I sent them back too. In a separate order I thought I'd get one of those loud euro style horns. When received the box had obviously been opened, and the electrical leads had been broken off by someone. So when they do take returns for broken or damaged parts, they apparently go right back into the sales bin. That flashy catalog is nice by costs bucks, so my approach is to use the catalog to find what I want, then buy from Pelican Parts. -Boyo |
Their magazine makes good bathroom reading material.
|
I would order for Pelican if they had RS carpet kits. Do they? I did'nt see them in the online catalog.
|
I keep a performance and tweeks in the bathroom as a matter of course. I haven't gone as far as taking the laptop in there but...
 |
In my experience, if Performance has it Pelican can get it usually at a better price.
|
I tend to do the same thing as Boyo. Use the PP catalog to window shope and look at the eye candy and then go buy from Pelican. In many cases Pelican is cheaper but even on the items that are more I still go with Pelican. Why?
The level of service that Wayne and the guys give is outstanding and they have supported past and future club events like no other vendor. Keep up the good work Pelican |
everybodies a comedian!

Fine I'm calling pelican now.
|
Their web site user interface is poor, their hold button on the phone works all too well and their Porsche specific knowledge was lacking when I was trying to find out if a specific item was right for my car. They put me on hold twice for 10+ minutes each trying to find the Porsche guy.
Conversely, when I've called or used Pelican my experiences have been all positive. Friendly, knowledgeable, quick and their sales support this board. Win - win. |
Pelican can supply pretty much everything that PP can, just call them and ask? ..........or use the PP board in the future for your questions? Hah ha - but a good point nonetheless.
This board ROCKS!!!! |
They have a few items that are unique.
Pricing is rough, basically like dealer less 10- 20%. Fast shipping though. rjp |
This is a bit of a tangent from PP, but how about AJUSA? I've been looking for an early dual out sport muffler for my 73 and they have the best price (beats Pelican by a bit) around for that part. Any comments on the quality of their stuff?
Brad |
Yeah see if Wayne can match or come close to the price AJ is charging
|
Pelican matches prices if you ask, usually. And their support is top-notch.
Not to mention that for some parts, it's actually still in the Performance Parts packaging with a Pelican sticker on it. |
Some points here:
- We will match prices on Performance's stuff and AJ's stuff - We have access and carry 100% of the items in Performance Products' catalog - just call up and ask. If they have it, we can get it. We can order that RS carpet kit for you as well. From us or them, it's a special order part, and will take a few weeks to make... -Wayne |
Called you guys a couple of hour's ago. Guy told me he would call me back if you had a RS kit and would call me back if you did'nt. Still waiting....
P.S. No disrespect, I love this board and everything you do for us. Its just that you cant carry every single product, and I don't expect you to. Thanks for everything. |
You spoke with Steve today. I told him to hand the request to John (we're swamped today), and he will be checking for you.
-Wayne |
DOH!.. well scratch Proformance products off my list.. I just now got my SS pistons. I should have known that when they said a "set" they meant 2 not 4. I saw a few other places selling 4 for just under what PP was selling them and I decided to go with a more reputable company... A set is 2 for $134. There's another $150 chalked up to the p-car.
Ohh and I ordered them about 10 days ago and they came today. At pelican I can order something on monday and get it on fri or sat. |
Thanks Wayne. Your customer service is outstanding.
|
Just can't beat pelican, Most of the stuff that I order will be on my doorstep the NEXT day!
|
I spent a small fortune with Perfomance Products and Tweeks restoring my 69 before stumbling onto to this board and the products and service of Pelican. Tweeks and PP both have some stuff differrent from the rest -cheaper then the others(sometimes) but the service and knowledge that I have recieved from Pelican has been superior. Being an ignoramas I did not know the difference between OEM or NOS...and just cheap remanufacture products and ended up with some parts that just don't fit right. The person I talked to at Pelican took the time to ask me questions regarding the few parts I have bought there and not just taken an order. Service IS everything and I only wish I knew about Pelican sooner. They do deliver faster also.
Thanks Wayne and everyone at Pelican.:) |
I used to shop at Performance Products for stuff I needed back in the day... until someone told me about this board.
I'm a die hard now, Pelican rocks! Where else can you get quality products along with great tech support... that and some entertaining thread/topics thrown in for free!!! |

Pelican matched the price of a set of 4 Bilsteins from a price that I got from shox.com. You can't beat PP customer service.
