Passenger side speakers all stopped working - Diplexer failed?
Replaced all my original Blaupunkt speakers with a Focal set (ISS 130) by just removing speakers and replacing. Didn't do anything with wires, etc. Currently, the PO put a Panasonic aftermarket radio. All worked fine. Then the entire right / passenger side speakers (I have the tweeter up top, mid woofer on bottom - both in door panel and one rear speaker on the back shelf) stopped working. Appears to be the Diplexer (see #7 on schematic) as I disconnected it and speakers get sound when all hooked up separately (including the right rear).
So, disconnected #3 in my pics from the back of the panel going to the Diplexer, and used it to connect to the midwoofer and then used the crossover cables form the Tweeter to connect to same leads. No sound but then interestingly, I can only hear a slight sound when the radio is set to TUNER and turned up very loud (no antenna so only hear static) but if I use the Aux cord to listne off my phone, no sound at all - however, entire left side works fine so know music coming out. Its almost as if there isn't enough power to run the speaker. Reminder, before the Diplexer died - it worked fine. Left side continues to work fine. I can always buy another Diplexer I guess, but still want to see if I can use the newer crossover cable that came with the Focals. I am trying to do this DIY instead of taking to a AV shop - appreciate any thoughts or schooling on how this stuff works. ![]()

Also, as side note:
* there is no amp in the car (unless hidden somewhere in dash) * orig Blaupunkt speakers worked (but sounded horrible) before I swapped speakers also * Driver side diplexer is original one

Is there an amp under the passenger seat?

Verified - No Amp under seat. Nothing else aftermarket under the dash. What's confusing to me also is that the right rear speaker went out when the crossover on the front door panel went out. I don't see any connection between the two? And again, with the new crossover cable, barely any sound coming out...

I don't follow how the front door crossover (di-plexer) could affect the rear speaker. Does your car have the fader control in the center console?
I have several of the OE di-plexers. If you get stuck I can ship you a couple to try out. Matt

That is what is so maddening. Literally, everything worked for a few drives. Then presto - nothing on the right side. So, I took the crossover and disconnected it and then put wires coming from the back of the radio through the door (#3) in the pic above which is a brown wire (assume ground) and the black wire (power or signal?) and connected them to the midwoofer (I don't know what you really call it - but the bigger speaker in front door) and it and the rear speaker started working. Never touched the wires on the back speaker (Brown assume is ground coming from radio and red from radio?) during this process. Then, tried the new Focal tweeter (because was using the orig tweeter still previously) and midwoofer withour diplexer but using crossovers that come from Focal. Believe I am connecting appropriately (have to just tie on since fittings aren't there yet) and can only hear sound coming out at about highest volume setting and it only is when its on TUNER setting = static from radio. Can't hear anything from AUX where I have phone plugged in playing music. During entire process, if I check the left side at any point - all speakers work.

How much do they cost? I may be moving to RS style doors so wouldn't have room for that but for now would be a great test to isolate what's going on...

If you covering shipping (probably $7.50 small flat rate) I'll send you one to try. If you want to keep it, how's $40?
Think there something crazy like $300 from Porsche...

HA! Yea, I don't mind without but my wife prefers a little music...so happy wife, happy 911 or something like that...Its more about figuring it out now - just to know what happened.

Could your tuner/amp have given up on the right side ? Did you try to run the left speakers (known good) fron the right amp output ?
And beware, in my 911 there was an aftermarket amp under the passenger footrest board. Invisible even with the carpet removed... |

Interesting. I will check that space as well then for the amp. As for the other question you ask - I think knowing if amp exists or not would help with the answer. Will have to check that first but would explain why right side stopped for both front and rear...I would say the tuner might have an issue obviously, but the fact that I can hear sound static out of it somewhat says something is still sending?

Here's the crossovers that I have. Looks like left and right are identical. The two on the left are in the best condition, original electrical terminations -

I may be an idiot (don't tell my wife) but why can't you just hook the speakers up directly to the stereo?

![]() And here's how it would mount to my right door - the screw on the back here in this pic (I took the screw out thinking i could open the diplexer) will reference that it would be on the left. ![]() I am fine testing either one, but would be good if you could see how it fits. I realize I could see what # is on the one I have to match - but not at home for 2 days because of business travel. PMd you my address and other info. Thanks!!

I have hooked each speaker up to the two wires (#3 in the pic) to verify they work. The crossover is required to have those two wires drive the two speakers (tweeter and midwoofer) in the front door. My understanding is there is no other way to run both speakers in the front door. The rear speaker not working is what is making me wonder what else is going on? My options codes don't show either the diplexer (M490) or extra amplifier (M494) but starting to think maybe there is an amplifier hiding somewhere. Guess, I will be tearing it apart to find out.

How's the original connection?
I did an aftermarket install w/ modified door cards that was working beautifully and then would have random issues. Thought broken wires maybe but resistance check w/ multi-meter ruled that out. Before rennsport I checked and it turned out I needed to carefully w/ needle-nose crimp the original connectors down to get more connective force where they meet the new speaker 'prongs' if you will - as the bumps would vibrate these to the point they were still connected (visually) but 'loose' Since doing this I've had no issues. Just something to check as well. |

That makes sense but I can’t get it to work at an acceptable level just in the garage so for now, that doesn’t seem to be the issue. Thanks though.
