Mounting 74 mirror to a SC door help

I’m working on changing out a rusted drivers door on my 74 Targa. Sourced a SC door in good shape. My goal is to mount the correct 74 chrome square mirror to this donor door. There are some obvious holes to fill from the flag mirror but I’m struggling with the attachment method for the OEM 74 mirror I have as it just has two small screws from the back. The inside of my SC door has access.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Correct year doors have holes already punched in the inner part of the dog leg to access the bolts that hold the mirrors, and those holes are covered by rubber plugs. I cannot figure out your photo, but the SC may also have pre-punched access holes although the pattern of the mounting bolts are obviously different.

Here is a picture of a door showing the location of the access holes. Note, this is a right side door, but the location is the same for a left side door

Here is a picture of the proper location of the mirror on the dog leg

Thank you for the images. !!

I wonder if the 70T interior door holes for the Durrant mirror are in the same location. I'm on shift at firehouse now but will check my 70T door when i return to my shop.

I do not see any plugs or holes in my SC door.

Step 1, weld up holes in SC door. Any pointers on the path of least resistance for this operation?

Step 2, Then drill interior and exterior holes. Sure would be nice if there was a drawing or template with the correct dimensions. Good old-fashion eye ballum from your images will probably work out fine.

The mirror I have is a Porsche branded reproduction but I must say I not that shot up with the small metic allen screws that meant to attach to the mirror via threaded inserts in the mirror base. Seems like threaded studs off the mirror base and nuts on the inside would be a much more solid connection.

It would be

The base of the Durant mirror is the same as the later rectangular mirrors, so the hole spacing is the same. IIRC, the OG mirrors had a fixed stud and a slot for a bolt to slide, fore and aft, to fit holes of slightly different spacings.

Heres an option if you are happy to have a black mirror. Re-shaped SC base using a metal based epoxy. The edges of the base have been ground down to make a more rounded profile. The round section of the base that pokes up into the SC mirror has to be cut off.
Sorry I don't have step by step picks.

Creative solution.
I have donar SC flag mirror bases to adulterate. Was wanting the polished look though. Guess I could have the base dipped after mods.

If you are putting your chrome mirror on the passenger side, it does not go in the exact same place on the door as the driver's side (or it is useless). You will have to sit in the car and have someone hold it while you eyeball it. It will look slightly asymmetrical from the front or back.

On this page is what simple solution I did on my 1985 to get those installed. Some may not like it, but it was cheap and easy. Most don't even notice the "adapter"...post #111

so this is how a backdate project starts...
