911SC ignition question

Here's one for you: when I turn off the key in the ignition the car continues to run. Any ideas?

Thanks Carl. I would get that if the ignition weren't starting the car, but not stopping the ignition?

Do a search but it may be a bad alternator keeping the engine running. There is also a diode attached to one of the gauges may be bad

Well, was monkeying with the fuel pump relay (had intermittent fuel pump not coming on). Installed new relay, car wouldn't start at all. Put old relay back in and car/ignition works like it should. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Fuel pump relay pins oftentimes do not "fill" the socket.

Try spreading each pin where they are split apart into the 4 "leaves".

The ignition thing is a two piece affair. There's the key/lock part and the actual ignition plugged in behind. Usually the key mechanism wears out at around 200,000 miles, but in your case it may be the ignition module all the wires connect to. Both are a pain-in- the-neck to get to because, as I recall, it involved laying upside down with your head in the footwell. Seems to me removing the seat, steering wheel, and a gauge or two helped accessibility. I decided to replace both units because I never wanted to go there again.

If you attempt, read up on the one way bolts and have a couple new ones on hand as they're not available at ACE Hardware. You'll need to drill the old ones out.
