Cadmium Parts plating.
I need a bunch of parts plated. Anyone have a business they can recommend?
I am in the San Francisco Bay Area and would like to use a local business but I am also willing to ship within Lower 48. Thanks for your help

There is a place.. I think it is in Redwood City that does the plating for a very famous Porsche resto. company. I'll need to dig in and see if I can find the name again. They can plate to different levels of yellow depending on what you want.

I think it was Hy-Tech Plating in San Carlos.

shaun@tru6 here in the forum does plating of parts in small batches in various finishes. The small batches aspect is key (I’ve heard some players have minimum batch sizes). He’s a Porsche restoration guy which can be helpful too depending on what you’re looking to do. I’ve sent stuff to him several times and have been happy with the results.

I just took a small batch of engine hardware to Hy Tech in San Carlos. The technician immediately recognized them as 911 parts, which I took as a very good sign
![]() Check out the DIY Plating thread as well- lots of good info in there if you want to learn more about the plating process. I’ll post pics of my parts there once they come back. Also, I’m sure to need to do more in the near future. PM me if it makes sense to batch some of our parts together! Jake Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Also, I’ve had Shaun do some of my larger stuff, and he’s the real deal. Highly recommended- but he’s always busy and on the other side of the country

CAD or zinc? Looks similar, but they aren't the same.

I use Valley Plating in Santa Clara. Call and ask for Fred, he's very accommodating and doesn't mind dealing with "hobbyists" and small batches of parts. I've seen parts from Canepa in there.

Agreed. Most gold plating is zinc. I doubt anyone in CA actually does cad any more.

To be clear, I said I don't think any plating shops in CALIFORNIA will plate YOUR hardware using cad. I could be wrong, and if the OP wants cad, where would he go?
FWIW, I had a bunch of stuff done in gold cad a number of years ago. It never really looked right and got dull quickly, but never rusted.

Exactly. I should practice what I preach as I have many times suggested a Google search, rather than listen to hearsay.
![]() I do know that the places that used to do cad where I used to live no longer exist. Good to know it is still an option. Perhaps someone who has had cad done recently could post a picture comparing cad to zinc. I have noticed that recently some zinc plated hardware available from our host is no longer gold colored.

Shaun is the real deal, albeit in Massachusetts. He can plate stuff in cadmium but he recommends yellow zinc, for at least a couple of good reasons. Originality being one of them. My parts came back looking gorgeous. I wish I had sent him more parts besides the fan, housing and strap.
