Power drain problem, need help identifying the source
Can you help me identify where these positive leads head to? They are both shorting out @ ~1.4A each.

Single red likely goes directly to the fuse panel for constant powered loads.
The double red likely goes to the ignition switch for switched power loads. Check the power window relay, it likes to hang... Best method is to leave everything connected normally and pull fuses until the load (drain) goes away. |

Residual draw.
What is the current draw when you pulled all the fuses.
Not sure, but, I don't think the DME is fused. Also, other items on the 3.2 cars are not fused. The typical non-use draw on our M/Y 86 is 150ma. G. |
1. Power window relay is behind the leftmost gauge, also 'reachable' from the frunk, see 'fensterheber' relay in pic on fuse 1 of bank 2 in the front fuse box (25A)

Other directly connected items I know of - starter motor & alternator B+ - DME relay under seat - from the DME relay, 'step 1' : ICV, DME, fuel injectors - from the DME relay, 'step 2' : lambda sonde (O2 sensor) heater - anything directly connected to pin 30 of the key contact (without passing via fuse box) or any of the pins that get connected to this 30 when turning the key such as : dashboard instrument lights on pin 58a of light switch (!) - I inserted a 3A fuse here to be safe ! ashtray light (!) possibly radio (if not installed correctly) |

Your best option, other than replacing stuff, is to get the complete electrical diagram in FrankM's post, then trace the path of the (2) red wires described.
The 4.0 and 6.0 wires identified; If you disconnected all fuses in turn with no indication from your ammeter, then those circuits are unfused. I'm not conversant with an '84, but those circuits might include: - Heater fan motors (typical short circuit items) - Starter solenoid and starter - Alternator BTW: 6.0 wire is equivalent to about a 9 AWG ga. wire size 4.0 wire is equivalent to about a 11 AWG ga. wire size (the two red wires in you photo might be these) Others in the know about your MY 911 can provide more info. I tend to use the Bentley manual to look at the part of the electrical system that I am interested in and the use the wiring diagram to find the details. The Bentley manual also highlights the differences between the build years.
