Dead clock --- any fix?

Clock went dead. Checked voltage and wires are good. Any typical fix for this? (Has no access through back side.)

Ladies and Gentlemen sit back and enjoy the ride . . .

Karl is about to invent a new 911 clock right before your eyes.

You know I'm an AC junkie RN! :D Clock... not much science there. (Currently working on condenser watering idea. Curious to see how low system pressures can be brought to. High side 120'ish maybe?!)

Enjoy!

And it'll be very complex and work perfectly in all time zones

This was a trick question right? North Hollywood Speedo is the answer. They take it apart and put it back together with new capacitors. So I've heard.

There are several clock repair threads. It is a common failure, you need to replace one or two capacitors. FYI will cost you $3 and 1 hour if you can solder.

Most likely these two guys.

You will have to remove the clock,
open up the back of the clock.

And, replace.

$1 parts.

It worked for me.

I replaced the capacitors in my clock about 5 years ago and has worked perfectly since. Don't know if this is your problem or not but not a difficult or expensive project to at least try.

Too much confidence in me Bronski! We're past due a lunch or something Scottie. BTW... Solo done. Prepping for FAA PP test. Though glider cert would bypass most of power flight stuff---doesn't seem to.

Bezel takes good bit of force to bend open. There's a soldered post sticking out back side of housing that needs desoldering in order for clock mechanics to be freed from housing... and two flathead screws.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564613347.JPG

In my clock, capacitors position with positive terminals towards clock's center. According to MHack in Walt's link... "capacitors are standard 100µF electrolytic capacitors." There is a "100" printed on butt of these caps.

Using 100 uF 50v max. Tested in car... works.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564680864.JPG

Cap's long wire leg = positive. Neg wire has "-" symbol against black background stripe on casing. Ground prong needs to be resoldered to housing when reassembling.

... Thanks for input guys. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif

@proporsche : added benefit = no power drain from the car battery when the car is in winter sleep !

I fixed my clock last fall and it has kept perfect time ever since. I was a bit surprised when I found a local Radio shack but they had the Caps.

That made me brave enough to fix my own odometer!
