Stupid 911 Gen/Alt light question

When I crank and let my 911 idle my alternator light is on. If I increase the idle speed above 1000 rpms the light goes out. Is this normal? So does this mean that the alternator is not charging with the light on at below 1000 rpms and starts to charge at above 1000 rpms?

Year of 911 would help but yes some early 50A alts could cause a faint glow at idle. But by the 80s there should not be a light on. When the carbon brushes got worn down on mine it started glowing strongly at idle only.

Manbridge. Jeff. It is a 74 911 with cis. There is a rebuilt 55 amp original Marchal alternator mounted.
