window regulator...damn! questions

Hey Fellas,
Got my car back saturday from mechanic (so so results...more later) and one of the things that didn't work was the driver window. Truth be told it always was a problem, would roll half-way up and then stopped, had to pull it up with hand etc. Now, the crank turns freely... no up or down.

Last night I pulled the regulator out (despite rumors it can't be done in a swb car without window frame removed) and it is toast. It is however in a few different pieces. Will I be able to get a new (used) regualator back in in one piece? When they are functioning they are one piece correct? The arms of mine were swinging freely, big spring was off, the "pivot pin" looked like it had been torqued to death and blown out. Anyone go through this?

Anyone got one for sale? I will post in classified too.

thanks a lot,

joe 68 L

(currently with a 2 x 4 stuck in the panel-less door holding window up...it actually works pretty well!)

This may sound stupid, but hit the motor with a rubber mallet. 9 times out of 10 this will cure the problem. Reason: sometimes wires become lose or gunk up, a splap can adjust or free them up. I have seen people bring their cars to the dealership and all the mechanic does is hit it and then bill them for different parts!

thanks guys....I found a place that charges $75 for refab regulator. Ron (long time no talk), thanks but not only does the pin look like it suffered a shark attack but there are few teeth missing from the big saw looking crank part so i have to commit to the whole operation.

Terry, thanks, i hear you on the mallet trick as i have used that one myself! Unfortunately these are crank up windows not power. BTW...I was down in Naples for a week in the beginning of the month....real crappy place to live

Some people might say the same about Cleveland.

Naples, Florida is one of the nicest places in the United States. For those that are uninformed I believe it has passed Aspen as the "most millionaires per capita " in this country. The " " indicates sarcasm or being facetious if you like... but thanks for the knock on cleveland though

I'm pretty sure

Pelican has the steel pin, if not, according to a long post yesterday, Wayne will get it for you. I had to do mine some
years ago, and the fix has lasted.
If you think people put the knock on Cleveland and Naples...
try living in Kentucky....LOL

Ron et. al, just got off phone with less than helpful pp employee who "has never heard of the pin" "does not carry" etc etc etc. Any other ideas?

I have a set of manual regulators (both side) and the glass as well. I just put power window in my car (doesn't work yet..but that's another story!). Let me know if interested. I'm going to put an ad under the parts area as well.

Thanks!

measure and eyeball which pin you need from the options on the other thread..
call Performance..1-800-423-3173, and ask for " steel pivot spring retainers".. list price of $31.95 ea... your other regulator pivot can't be far behind..

Bought an early car, 2 arm lift assembly from 20th Street Auto in Phoenix for $70. Might try them.
