Front Condensor Fan
It appears that my front condenser fan may have a dead spot. Probably best to replace it sooner than later.
Anybody have one of Griffith's replacement motors and fan installed? Looking at $$$ this seems to be the way to go versus Porsche given Griffith's quality, expertise and contributions here. Interested in impressions.

His stuff is top notch. When I had to replace mine a few years ago, I was able to find the Bosch motor on eBay by searching for the part number, so that was an economical alternative.

I discovered that there was in site only the plastic cover, the blower had gone!
No worry, the cost of replacement was high, so i decided to do by my self. A visit to a big auto elettirical part shop was fine, i showed the black plastic box and theyt give me a good centrifugal blower 12 with very high capacity from SPAL automotive Italy , at the cost of 20 euros ! Then i Made a new fresh air intake, using a pan of correct diameter ( 2 euros ) making a square hole to adapt the self made intake The motor was fixed to a new basament, self-made and screwed to existant 4 holes. For safety i added a fuse. The result was good, motor not noisy, air flow ok. Warning : it must ran continously evrry time you engage the air conditioned. ![]() |

Nice job Pigros! Very good!
Mike, it's most likely the motor; not the fan itself. There's a bearing on the bottom of the motor that gets 'stickey' and hangs up. You can lubricate, but given the motor's age, it might be best to just replace it. I replaced mine. It's the same Bosch motor that's used in the Evaporator box. You can get them from our host or from Griffiths. Other Porsche websites have them as well, as does Ebay one and I think Amazon.

Thinking Griffiths from Pelican. Griff shows out of stock. New fan attached to motor and a pigtail with an inline fuse in the kit.
Checked output thru condenser and it is so anemic that it barely flickers a match. So, off to order.

The SPAL motor assembly is coded 002 A37/ C42 D European omologation e1 023062, with diameter of about 12 cm, the inox pot has a diameter of about 9,8 cm.
For fixing air intake to the pot and the pot to black plastic case i used non acetic carpentry silicone. Recently i have looked at the astonishing price of a compatible replacement ( motor and case, sold only together ) from a well known Porsche spare trader : 750 euros ! |
