Brand new '89 turbo body in white

Ignoring the asking price, perhaps the coolest thing I have seen in a while.

I would love to know the story behind this.

Smart people? Imagine Singer having a warehouse full of 964'shells.
BTW, I could use a 964 front clip

Maybe someone who couldn’t afford to purchase a complete 930? -aka- ‘dreamer’

Wasn’t a new ‘89 Turbo around the same price; $70K US?

I remember about 15 years ago when I owned an SC I was curious about a brand new 3.0 engine.

Porsche still had some available from the factory at the time.

Smart?

911 was $50k in 1989
I will randomly use $20k as the cost of the shell in 1989
$20k invested in SPY since 1989 is worth over $200,000 today.

Probably will have to register it as a new car, but it can't pass all the safety standards without some serious engineering.

Have to title/register it as reconstructed, probably with a state-issued VIN.

$72k with no VIN.

It would cheaper to take a rusty 930 shell and restore it to better-than-factory in the color of your choice, G50 and all.

They were made as replacement bodies for damaged existing cars- unless you are manufacturers like RUF who I believe started with "bodies in white".
Real RUF cars have a RUF VIN.
I think the factory is authorized to re VIN a body in white with the original numbers from the donor car.
This is interesting. Dealers are still showing new bodies in white back through the G-cars,I think in reality, only the recently current production models are available but the prices are shown at least. http://www.***********.com/Porsche-911-Body-In-White-srch.html

As a matter of interest, does anyone know why Porsche uses white as a primer when most other auto-manufacturers use black?

Place an order and see if one shows up. I know I'd probably soil my drawers if the Fedex truck rolled in with a new 911 body in the back...

The reason ruf stopped making certain early cars was due to the lack of factory bodies in white .
I doubt you’ll find one available even though listed in pet . (A bit like 930 rear arms etc)
Though things are looking up with the prices of aircooled cars , and now bolt-on panels are being made again .....

Did you end up buying the 993 speedlines centerlocks bob ?
I’ve not heard back from them .
