Pics of my new (to me) 930!

For those of you in the Houston area, the silver Datsun is no more, it's been replaced with this '79 930:

The turbo thrust is incredible, the lag is annoying but I guess you learn to drive around it. The previous owner had just about every performance part put on the car from suspension to a 3.4L kit. I got it at a good price, I guess because most people don't want a car this modified. I figured I'd do all the mods anyway, so this way I'm just handling maintenance. BTW, what clutch holds up to this much power?

Nice Ride! I like the turbo kick too. Wish I could feel it everyday, but I'll take it when ever it's offered ( Chris, hint, hint, can I have another ride? )

VERY sweet. Congrats, my friend. When are you going to bring that thing up here to the hill country for some driving? Better yet, can you make it out to the HCRPCA DE May 17-8?

That thing is just beautiful. We need to get together soon! Go ahead and give us all a comprehensive list of the mods on that thing. I can see the wheels, bumper, and what looks like b&b exhaust. What else is on it?

SWEET!! Haha, my first ride in a 930, when is it going to be?? Us Houstonites will have to have another get together so you can show everyone since you are now the Turbo in the group.

Awesome, we want more details, and to think, this weekend I nearly PM'ed you to find out how the search was going. I guess now I know.

Sweet! How much did it set you back?

As to a clutch--how much power are you getting? Up to about 550 at the crank, you can get by with a non-puck set up. Over that, to get it all down (so you can liquefy your tires, of course) you'll need a 935 style, puck set-up.

I've got the latter, and it is actually not that bad. Certainly streetable, with practice. And with the helper spring on there, pedal effort is less than my E36 M3 (!) The difference is that it's nowhere near as progressive--you've got about a half inch, if that, of clutch travel between disengaged and engaged. But once you're locked in gear, you STAY locked in. With my short-shifter in there, this is the most positive 911 clutch I've ever felt. Certainly miles away from the stock "school bus" feel I had before.

Personally, I think the best buys out there are 930s that have been modded correctly by people who cared. Congrats.

My 930 had a stock clutch in it and would slip badly at high RPM. I have installed a Centerforce Clutch and have ZERO slippage. Go with Centerforce.

What exhaust system has your beauty got?

When I changed out the stock header/muffler to a GHL the Turbo lag dropped considerably. Rough SWAG is that boost starts in around 2300 - 2400 rpm.

Of course, the five speed doesn't hurt either to keep the motor in the sweet spot
