Smile Evaporator Motor Project Done!!!!!

Well, two days and about 4 hours of very careful and methodical labor, and the new evaporator motor is installed and running like a sewing machine!! What a difference in both air flow and noise!!

I'd like to personally thank everyone who offered their advice. Some of the tips folks provided me turned out to be worth their weight in precious metals!!

All in all, it wasn't a bad project, and I certainly learned some things during the process. Unfortunately, I was so involved in the project that I didn't think to take many pictures, even though my digital camera was sitting on the workbench. I did take a few of the new motor mounted in its housing, and one of the evaporator with the lid/motor assembly removed.

One thing's for sure, I've now got tips galore for those ready to embark on this project!! After having completely restored the A/C in my '78 SC, and now this, I think I finally qualify for my doctorate in Porsche A/C!

I got everything back together so you could never tell the box was apart. I even managed to get all the factory clips reinstalled, and went as far as reinstalling the zip tie that holds the wiring on the rear firewall bracket!! I'm pretty anal when it comes to doing things like this, as I'm obsessed with keeping everything "factory".

Porsche could have really made this an easy service to perform had they put even 10 more minutes of thought into the design, but I had a few tools on hand that were life savers!!!

SeaDweller, I'm glad to see you've nailed your first (and hopefully last for a while) project on your new car. Now it's time to really enjoy it!

Right on Michael. I must admit I forgot to put the zip tie back on. Damn now I feel guilty. OK I am anal about that stuff too! Good job!

Nice work, Michael.
You are now far more connected to that car than any of its previous owners. They kept it clean, but none went into the dark places that you have been.

Would you consider putting a Tech Article on the PP site? I'll have to do the same job eventually - the squealing has begun - and would love to be able to learn from your experience.

I'd definitely consider doing a tech article while it's fresh in my mind, but do you think it would be beneficial without lots of pictures?
