NOW AVAILABLE FOR ORDERING - How To Rebuild And Modify Porsche 911 Engines!!!

Hi everyone. I have just confirmed that the books are on a truck, headed for Los Angeles, as I write this. We are expecting to ship them out next week. For those of you who ordered the preview copy - do nothing - yours will be mailed to you with the Bonus CD-ROM as soon as they arrive.

For those of you who would like to order a copy now, you can do so at this URL. It will also be shipped out next week as soon as they arrive:

http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/BOOK/POR_BOOK_101pro_main3.htm

If you order it along with something else, then your order may be delayed until the book comes in. Choose USPS Priority Mail for the lowest shipping rate ($5.50) for both the CD-ROM and the book.

All books purchased through Pelican will be autographed by me!

NOTE: If you have already placed an advance order through another book store or Internet store, I suggest that you CANCEL IT! You can ONLY get the Bonus CD-ROM (4000+ photos) from Pelican. The CD-ROM and book bundle are $34.95. The CD is available separately for $15.95 for those who insist on purchasing the book elsewhere.

IF YOU WANT TO SUPPORT PELICAN AND SUPPORT THIS BBS, BUY THE BOOK HERE. IN ADDITION TO GETTING THE BONUS CD-ROM, BUYING IT HERE BRINGS IN MANY MORE DOLLARS THAN BUYING IT ELSEWHERE. I make about a buck or so on each book if you buy it elsewhere. I make quite a bit more for Pelican if you buy it here. IF YOU WANT ME TO CONTINUE SPENDING MY TIME TO WRITE QUALITY BOOKS LIKE THIS ONE, THEN PLEASE PURCHASE IT FROM PELICAN. I cannot stress this heavily enough.

Here is the blurb on the new book:

Now I will have to check the mailbox every day in anticipation of the book's arrival!:D

jhelgesen 03-25-2003 12:38 PM

Okay, you talked me into it. Looks like I'm gonna need it to when I have to repair the broken head studs on my 3.0.

Wayne 962 03-25-2003 12:46 PM

For those of you doubters, simply wait until the reviews are in. Everyone I have shown it to (mostly experts, rebuilders, etc.) have absolutely loved it.

The one comment I keep receiving is that the Appendices are worth the price of the book alone! (all the Porsche spec books info on the engines have been reproduced).

Remind me real quick - wasn't the deal you had going last fall that if you paid $x you got the b/w preview copy of the book and a real copy when it came out? I got in on it, and have the b/w version. I was on the phone w/PP earlier today to sort out another order issue, and the lady didn't know what I was talking about. Oh, and if any more Swepco shows up on my doorstep, my neighbors are going to start calling me Sheik Habib.

old_skul 03-25-2003 01:14 PM

Ordered, Wayne. I don't plan on rebuilding anytime soon, but there's a lot of value in having a reference like this around to consult when you go to replace some obscure part.

Congratulations!

boyo 03-25-2003 01:15 PM

Woo hoo! :D

surflvr911sc 03-25-2003 01:27 PM

I just ordered mine and am having it shipped to my deployed location. I can't wait! Thanks Wayne!

Wayne 962 03-25-2003 01:27 PM

Thom, re-read the first post carefully, it says:

"For those of you who ordered the preview copy - do nothing - yours will be mailed to you with the Bonus CD-ROM as soon as they arrive."

BlueSkyJaunte 03-25-2003 01:37 PM

Man, that sample part diagram looks GREAT. And, is that a serif font I spy? Excellent choice! :D

Wayne, I really wish you'd do a book for the 1978 Honda CB750K. The stoopid bike is kicking my a$$ and sucking my will to live!!!

widebody911 03-25-2003 01:47 PM

Sorry - My brain saw the 'marketing' part of the message and instinctively blocked everything out.

Cool - my order is in. A book that will be very interesting to read but that I hope I won't have to use. Kind of like How To Remove Your Own Appendix.

Evans, Marv 03-25-2003 03:05 PM

All Right !!!
I've been looking forward to this since you said you were starting the project, Wayne. Congratulations in advance. I just ordered mine and will be lookin forward to reading it.

Emission 03-25-2003 03:11 PM

Wayne,

Stupid question time... I've got the turbo 3.3 liter. Does your book cover the differences between the engines? Would you recommend me purchasing it if I were to re-build my Turbo?

Thanks!

silverc4s 03-25-2003 03:21 PM

Wayne,
I just ordered the book. Hope this doesn't mean one of my engines is about to blow up...

Halm 03-25-2003 03:47 PM

Done. Really look forward to its arrival.

masraum 03-25-2003 04:01 PM

Yay!! I'm not even contemplating rebuilding anything anytime soon, but my order is now in!

Wayne 962 03-25-2003 04:14 PM

The long block on the 3.3 Turbo is nearly identical to the 3.2, so this book would cover 100% of the rebuild. The only thing that I did not have space to cover was the specifics on Turbo fuel injection and exhaust. But the long block is completely covered.

pwd72s 03-25-2003 04:59 PM

OK! I'll call tomorrow! Yes, I'm one of those old farts still refusing to give a credit card number on the net...

KFC911 03-26-2003 05:29 AM

Although I'll probably never have the skills/confidence to tackle anything along the lines of a rebuild, I'll be ordering one today just to use an information resource. This post was mainly to bump this to the top of the list again....

ps Wayne, or some other moderator...shouldn't this topic be kept at the top of the list (at least for a few days)?

Wayne, Ensure you put the value of the book down as zero $0.00, as I've already paid the full duty on the original price when I received the preview copy.
Thanks again, can't wait!!!!
Gary

Siena911 03-26-2003 05:57 AM

Just ordered it, can't wait now. This is going to arrive just in time for the holiday,

No novels for me this year, whohoooo

Well done and thanks again for the efforts Wayne!

Cheers Jakes

rhenriksen 03-26-2003 06:24 AM

I'm also interested in this topic -- good quality information here is great to have on the shelf even if you don't expect to use it anytime soon (knock on wood).

My '96 993 NA motor isn't specifically covered, of course; and with the care its getting, shouldn't (touch wood) need help anytime soon. I think the only potential trouble spot on the 993 is premature exhaust valve guide wear -- okay, and those stupid air injection passages in the heads.

Anyway, can someone venture a guess on how much of the material in this book will still be relevant to a 993? I'm guessing 80-90%, but that's just my WAG. I know I've got twin plug heads, hydraulic lifters, and a different intake; besides that (and larger jugs ;) ) not sure how much has changed.

thanks,

RNH

ErVikingo 03-26-2003 09:19 AM

Wayne, do I get "a deal" for supplying pics for the book?

jluetjen 03-26-2003 02:05 PM

I ordered mine!

makaio 03-26-2003 06:05 PM

Yahooooooo! Finally! I just ordered mine too. I just hope I don't have to put it to use anytime soon.

dickster 03-27-2003 08:25 AM

tim,

i was wondering how long it would take! my grilfriend can't believe it.

you're right i know. but it looks like another couple of weeks before the friggin locks are gonna show. in the meantime i'm left thinking about that damn '78 i looked at. i phoned the guy and its still for sale. so the deal is i'm testing the water with mine, dont expect to sell, but if i do its for the '78 only. we have agreed to keep the other informed if anything happens.

could go either way.

btw - if you want a REAL good deal on a 930 brake conversion, SELL it for me!!!! ;)

i'll be happy to keep the '86 though, HONEST.

Wayne 962 03-27-2003 03:08 PM

Hey, for shipping to the UK, we can send it Global Priority Mail, which should be $11.

-Wayne

Siena911 03-27-2003 09:45 PM

Wayne,

is Global priority mail the same as USPS global priority mail? If so my order showed it as $16.50

Doesn't really matter, but would like to know for future purchases

Dickster, are you getting rid of the Brakes then?

I thought you had managed to get all the pieces together by now. How far did you get with them?

Cheers Jakes

dickster 03-27-2003 10:32 PM

wayne,

$11 isn't so bad, can you confirm this? i tried ordering again and it does show up as $16.50.

jakes,

i have the complete kit now, minus the necessary to rebuild the front calipers - maybe £300 to fit new pistons etc. i'm only going to sell if i can get my hands on that 78 turbo;)

stevef 03-28-2003 08:46 AM

Wayne, Since I have already paid the customs duty on the preview copy price that includes the later shipping of the final book I assume the invoice/shipper accompanying the final shipment will read "no value" or whatever you need to put on the shipper so I don't end up paying double duty. Looking fwd to receiving the book

Overpaid Slacker 03-28-2003 09:57 AM

Congrats, Wayne -- it's got to feel great to have this project come to fruition. Just ordered one.

Can't wait to learn all the things that could be wrong with my motor and plague myself with reasons to tear it apart just to see if it really looks like that and if it will all go back together.

*Note to self - never buy Gray's Anatomy.

- jPp

TurboBert 03-28-2003 09:36 PM

I just ordered one, Wayne. I'm looking forward to it.

dickster 03-29-2003 12:00 AM

wayne,

how do we get them posted internationally for $11?
