Spare fuel pump relay and a fuse assortment. Otherwise, looks pretty complete.

you are missing the Klein or Hapeve pliers..like these...Pudenz fuse set and a tire gauge

I don't think that little Allen wrench belongs.

You are also missing a tow hook, I believe. One of these that fits in a hole on the left rear bumper:

Missing the LONG allen with the rubber boot on the long end plus the steel tube that goes with it.
These together are to remove the bolt that holds the battery down.

Could be. I "borrowed" the photo from eBay. How do you know it's for a 930?

I thought there were two types, one short that screws into a receiver somewhere (rear bumper?), and this hook-type. I thought the one pictured was for US cars, and the screw-type for ROW.

Since my recently acquired tool kit is also missing a tow hook, I'd like to understand which one I need as well.

I think those started in 1980 or 1981. The battery bolt on my 1979 has a standard head (13 mm).

Interesting. What about that red tag on the pouch?

Mark what i remember is that 930 had the hook type hole and other 911 threads under the left rear bumper molding.Remove the plug and see what do you have,i bet it is threaded...

For the color of the tag on tool kit .We did some research in French forum and here are the results...

911 carrera 3.2 from 84 to 86: red (coupe, targa or cab)
911 carrera 3.2 from 87 to 89: black (coupe, targa or cab)
930 3.3: gray
911 SC US 74 to 84: yellow

Ivan, I took your suggestion and popped off the plug on my 1979, and found that my car needs the hook-type. There are no threads. The engine is out, so it was easy to confirm from the inside as well.

I'm intrigued by this as I have always assumed that my kit (red tag) was original to the car (79SC US), which I purchased in '86.

I think the colors are all over the map. I just bought one that is supposed to be from an SC, and it's green. On eBay there's a green one and a yellow one.

I think all these years later, it's hard to tell unless we find an original owner that still has their tag. Even then, I bet there were multiple colors used. I've never seen an explanation of what they mean.

Here is a picture of the tool

our factory delivery.

When cars were delivered to
the Porsche U.S.A. delivery
center, there were no tool kits
in the cars.

However, tool kits were stocked,
and, sent separately to the dealers,
from the factory Porsche delivery inspection
location such as Reno Nevada.

Thanks Gerry. I don't doubt Ivan's info, but I think there are exceptions and no fast rule. Ivan, your results may also be different as I imagine most of your survey were non-US cars.

I always thought the explanation in one of your links made sense - the dealers had piles of kits and didn't pay a whole lot of attention to what went into each car they sold. So we're left with a fairly random data set.

Pelican user ozbeycem seems to collect tool kits and may be the closest we have here to an authority. You can search for his Pelican posts and his eBay ads (ozbey904) to get some idea of what is correct.
