Who is using Toyo R888 or R888R on Fuchs?
 

I'm about to put my Fuchs 16 by 7&9 back on my car.

Toyo Proxes R1R was my first choice but I'm not sure if I can get them in the sizes I want.
I am contemplating R888r (dry weather car)

a few questions

What is the best size for the front tires? (7" R16)
205 or 225?
what height, 45? 50? 55?
I'm not a big fan of bulging over the rim look.
But most of all, I want it to look similar to the rear tires.
For the rears I'm going with 245/45 R16


Is the TR1 something to consider? they are also available in 215.

When I had those wheel sizes, I used 205/55 up front and found that they bulged a little more than the rear 245/45.

I am trying to decide the same thing, I have fuchs 16x7/9 and in need to tires, there are not much for options in a 205/55R16 and 245/45r16 beside the Toyo R888r
Anyone run two different kinds of tires?
I am from Minnesota and I wont be driving it in winter but the spring/fall temps can be in the 40's , are the toyo R888r ok to be running in that cold of temps?

You may get the size 205/50 at front (regular is 205/55).

Though regarding manufacturer, I opted for the new(*) 2019 Yokohama AD08 RS.
grip performance obviously is wayyyy better than a street tire, but it also has good wet performance, as the 888 has about none.

(*new RS, even more sophisticated compound than the previous R, more longlivity etc.)

Thanks for the info. How are you liking them? Have you had them for long?

The 2019 Yokohama AD08 "RS" look like a great tires but they are not listed as a option on Yokohama website, just as a new release. Anyone know where to get these from?

205/55 was my what my gut feeling was telling me.

But damn, Flo, thanks for putting another option in the crosshairs.
I mostly take my car out when it's dry, but you never know when you get caught in a surpise shower.

I can't seem to find the 245 size online though.
Yokohama Belgium says they do not make those in 245/45/16..

Back to TOYO..

There is another Yokohama tire I found, the ADVAN A052, They make them in a 205/55r16, 225/50r16 and 245/45r16.

and we're looking at yokohama again ... :)

my bad. I misread the 225/45 offer.

never mind, just get the regular rear size 225/50 on an 8x16 Fuchs.
See in my picture how it sits.

as the Yoko has an reinforced sidewall, you will not need the 245/45 stiffnes which a street tire needs on a 9x16

and the grip compensates the missing 20 width.


The A052 is a 245/45 option, though its a real race tire, like the Avon or Michelin. They are great for track but don't last long and have nearly no wet performance.
You don't want to change these rears 4-5 times a year.

Do you want track tire?
If you do then Toyo 888 is available in the sizes you want, I agree that 205/50 on a 7, is an easier fit than 205/55 because of the lower height

or Toyo RA1 but they don't have a 205 so you would need a 225/50 front

Pirelli Trofeo and P Zero Rosso both have 205/55 & 245/45 x16 the Troffeo is another track tire the Rosso is a street tire

The only Yoko 245/45 x16 I can find is A052 w/ either 205/50 or /55 front, again either works but the /50 is an easier fit.

205/55 on Fuchs 7 gets very close to the fender lip, actual fit will depend on suspension spec, settings and height

Bill, don’t really want race tires, but limited availability is what it is.

Pirelli is too costly for the limited amount of miles I do.

Sizes I have figured out, I think.
245/45 R16 for the rear
205/50 R16 for the front because of the easier fit. My car is lowered and I hate rubbing tires.

Leaning towards the Toyo R888r unless I learn that the Yoko A052 is a much better tire.

The 052 is a DoT R like the 888 and RA1, it is comparable to BFG Rival S 1.5, B/S RE71, Direzza ZIII but seems to be slightly better liked

Ive used Potenza RE-11's with good results, just to add another option :)
When I bought them the sizes were fairly plentiful in the 16,17" range too.

(Not really directed at you, Helix, just commenting for Geronimo.)

I track the R888R's in the rain too and they noticeably lose grip in the corners but seem ok on the straights.

However, keep in mind most tracks have much better grip than your typical street which can be unpredictable. I think what we're trying to say is if you get caught in the rain with R888R's on just don't drive balls out, common sense should prevail.

I'm using the Proxes R888 on 7's & 8's sizes 205/55 & 225/50.

I find them quite noisey at certain speeds. Does anyone else notice this or do I have a drivetrain problem?

I'd go for Bridgestone S02.

^^Those have been NLA for a couple years now.

I've put 2.5 sets of the R888Rs on my '88 since last spring. I'm running 225/45s in front on 8" wheels and 245/45s on the 9" rears and I love the grip. My car is otherwise pretty much stock and we have had a blast not giving much up to better cars.

I've driven on them from Arkansas to LA twice and yes they are noisy, especially as they age, but it's fine with the windows down as God intended. We put a set on my wife's 997 4S (235 & 305) and they are 3x louder in that car.

They are definitely a little hairy in standing water. I inadvertently drove through some snow going up and down Donner pass headed to Luft5. That was terrifying AF.

I'll probably try out the Yokos next go around, probably in the Spring before I do another rallye or cross-country trip to Luft7.

The "new" A052 (200tw version) is said to be pretty good in the wet. There are correct height 16" options, too. Upper end of the trackable street spectrum. As in, I can run these on the track if I want.

The r888 / R is the streetable track. As in, I can get away with driving to my track day if I want.
