Shoes suitable for daily wear and driving?
I know this question might seem trivial to some but I'm sure I'm not the first person to run into this problem and was hoping someone could give me a recommendation. I wear a size 11 shoe which is probably larger than average but certainly not uncommon. The problem I have is that most athletic shoes available suitable for daily wear have a protruding heel and toe which causes my toe to hit the bottom of the air ducts in my 1986 911 at times. It's somewhat disconcerting during spirited street driving and I'd like to find a shoe suitable for daily wear but with a sole dimension closer to a driving shoe. Any suggestions other than using a saws-all on my existing shoes? I'm about to that point!

SAS has some shoes that appeal to medical professionals that are soft and do not have protruding soles. Not inexpensive, but work well with a narrow foot box and large feet.

Yup. Flat skateboard shoes are the best, although I wear anything.
I had a student complain he couldn't heel n toe with his fancy driving shoes. I told him maybe because he wasn't peter pan.

I have a couple pairs of Ferragamo loafers I wear everyday. Most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. They dress up if you need to go to dinner, they're driving moccs so you can heal toe easy, and they dress down with some shorts during the summer.

Thanks for all the input! It seems like the Vans had the most votes so now I'm a proud owner of my first pair. I actually had to go to their website to find my local "dealer" which was a store in the mall called Journeys. I think I've upped my street cred quite a bit now. I'm quite the hip old man with some skateboard shoes and an '86 911!

congrats on your 1st pair of vans. mission accomplished with your upped street cred,, and I bet you might buy another pair at some point. if you got the slip on's like dave suggested above you will get a second pair ![]() I wore stan smiths too back in the day. great shoe, loved them, but they rotted my feet due to lack of decent ventilation and them being all leather. you'd throw them in the closest for a year, and even though they quit smelling you put a foot back in them and they stunk like you never took them off. walk around some to break them in, and then post a pic of you exercising the new street cred.... ![]()

I find converse all stars the closest to driving shoes. Bought a pair as a "blast from the past" reminder of my younger days. Surprising how good it is for driving, heel and toe, etc.
