H1's vs. H4's--whats the diff?
H1's are much more expensive. I'm considering a used pair for my SC-asking $400. Is it worth the added expense? Thanks
|
The low beams seem like other European pattern lights I've used, but the high beams are like true driving pattern lights like Hella 4000s. Big round pattern reaching far down the road. And that's stock wattage.

and i have a coupple of sets if anyone needs some
|
H1's have 2 bulbs (H4's are 1 bulb I believe). I have H1's with the regular 55 watt low beam bulbs and 100 watt high beams. If you ever see a glow in the Northern sky it's me turning my high beams on.

I don't know about H1s, but H4s are da bomb! :D

H1's have this cool half-moon pattern on the low beams. I like em.

Okay--thanks so far---so whats a good price for these and is it an easy upgrade? (similar to H4 upgrade?). Anything I should watch out for?
Redducati--what are you asking for yours? Thanks |
I favor the H4's myself:

350 and there yours.

H1 are usually more expensive than H4. I think that H4 are illegal in some states, but H1 are illegal in all states.
H1 does not meet the DOT standards. H1 are found on european cars, while H4 are found are cars that want that european look. |
This is true, however, Habib at the local inspection station had problems finding the engine in my car. Im doubtfull that that is an issue

Hey SWBSAM
How long did you spend on that previous post? 82 911SC Targa 70 Lotus Type 52 with twin webers 70 Lotus Europa 97 Isuzu Rodeo the parts SUV and the baby seat SUV |
Illegal ... just because an item doesn't meet DOT stds. does not mean it is illegal for you to put it on your car. It might be -- or might not be -- you have to check your state motor vehicle code.

The lenses should also be in good shape. They may start to fog or they may have pits or chips. You can always replace the lenses but that an extra expense.

I'm not all that sure about lens replacements these days. Call Pelican, ask how many they have in stock. The answer will be "NLA". I have a (carefully hoarded) few. Despite Sam's balloon spelling error, I find his thoughts to be spot on. I'd buy a perfect set for $350 in a heartbeat...but if the reflectors or adjustment screws are bad? Next to worthless...So, I drive on...praying that some SOB out there doesn't decide to prang me, my car, or those NLA H1's...
|
yea, if your running H1s you gotta pray that nothing bad happens to them. Unless you have a stock of them and 10 or so lenses (wink wink)

Damn French.

Mark? I'll give you $35 each for those H-1 lenses...That's what I paid a year ago for my latest spare.
