1983 911 SC Garage Find Build

I am new to the forum and recently purchased my first Porsche! A 1983 911 SC that has been sitting in a garage since 1994. It was originally parked there when the husband of the lady I purchased from passed away. She explained that she never really knew how to drive it and that it ran fine when she parked it there years ago.


Here it is the next morning! I can see I already need to replace the smile. But I looked over the body really well, absolutely no rust anywhere! Lots of small dents, but that is easy to fix.


There are quite a lot of rock chips, not sure if I should leave the original paint alone or have a shop spend some time touching it up where it needs attention. Let me know what you think?

Don't stress on the rock chips, new paint will have them soon enough. I have learned to love my patina which is almost exactly like yours.

IMHO: Pull the tank and clean it thoroughly. Ethanol in modern gas sucks up water and water is poison to CIS injection. I would pay an extra $1 a gallon for ethanol free gas. I use Startron from the marine department at the store.

Wider bumperettes and no side marker lights, I assume this is US.

Already working on getting it running! Put a new battery in it, confirmed all the lights and instruments work. Going to drain the old fuel next!

I checked, it’s does not have the “XXX” for ROW, VIN 4-6 is “AA0”

Thank you! I can’t wait as well! Do you have a black interior? My seems to be two tone black/beige, I’ve never seen an SC like it. Im trying to figure out if maybe it was ordered like that or was outfitted later in its life.

Definitely dirty under here! Looks like there is an oil leak somewhere, everything seems to be original!


Drained the tank, wow that gas was old! It’s been sitting since 1995 with a full tank. Fuel pump is seized as well. Already have a new fuel pump and filter ready to be installed!

I did not happen to notice the mileage on this car, but it appears to be in great shape. The tail lights are bright and clean. On the inside, I mean. I think you should photograph the heck out of this thing and then give it a real good cleaning. And then more photographs. We love photographs.

My current car, a '78 with mostly '83 parts, was born in Mocha (VERY dark brown) and then repainted in Mocha. It had lots of chips which showed a whitish undercoat. It never seemed to me that Porsche would paint a dark color over a white undercoat. Every Porsche seems to have been sprayed with a more 'interesting' undercoat. I see grey. I see brown. Also, I notice that original Porsche paint jobs are of very high quality. They chip FAR less than repaints. I don't know much about paints, but a body/paint guy could tell you more about this car, when you get to that point. And BTW, my excellent local guy got rid of those chips and missing paint pieces almost as if they had not been there.

This looks like a good car. Keep us posted.

I also like the two-tone interior. It's pretty sweet without being over the top.

Mike, mine has the same color carpets as yours but has 2 tone light/dark brown door panels and seat covers. They are clearly newer than the car.

Upon receiving the Porsche birth certificate I found that the original interior color was Grey Beige, so the carpet color was correct.

Nice looking car. Those seats look to be in amazing shape. It's a time capsule.

You have some work ahead of you bringing it back, but well worth the effort.

Like some of the others have said, leave all the chips etc, just get it on the road and enjoy the hell out of it.

I have spent b'tloads of money, nearly all here on Pelican, over the years. It has been a major source of joy. The OP likely wants to first see what he has...then consider repairs and upgrades. He seems to be going into this methodically. Good.

He (and we) will benefit if he follows my advice. Take tons of pics, then clean it. The more you clean it, the more you will like it and the easier it will be to work on.

My car has two-tone black/beige carpet. Aside from the carpet being easy to make dirty, it does lighten up an all-black cabin nicely.

Leave the rock chips until you've completely sorted it mechanically. Sending it off to a paint shop is simple. Getting it on the road reliably needs to be the first objective. Cosmetics after combustion.

Great find! Looking forward to hearing it run. I had a similar path...now being 10 years, I have a lot stories in my thread...and the baby I mention at the beginning is now a sixth grader. Enjoy the trip!

My car has a little two-tone to it as well that I believe is original.
