73 interior door pull mechanism

Question for group - hoping someone has worked on interior door handle mechanisms.
I started having a problem w/ driver side interior door pull (73 911) - very stiff.

I took door apart and found the rod connecting the door handle pull to the actual mechanism at rear of door was bent (too much resistance I suspect)

I have sprayed both mechanisms (door pull and rear of door) with PB blaster, wd-40 and mechanism is still very stiff. There is no rust in door or on mechanism, but something is gumming the works.

Outside door mechanism is smooth and easy to work, same for door lock mechanism on interior.

Ideas?

Passenger side mechanism pulls with ease.

Charles

If you haven't already, I'd remove the part at the rear of the door and see if you can locate the problem. They're easy to remove & reinstall. You can connect the rod and look at what's happening as you actuate it. Could be something bent or broken in the mechanism, a disintegrated nylon bushing causing binding, or ??? I always lubricate the door mechanisms when I need to remove a door card. It's one of my "while you're in there" things. These kinds of things are always fun. Good luck.

Tension on the door jam plays a part in how east the pull will be.

Post a pic of your door closed, looking down on the seam between door and body.

Do you have the 911 sealing manual?

Thanks for ideas.

The problem was with the pivot at the door pull mechanism, not at the mechanism at the rear of the door.

The grease must have dried, so after several rounds of letting PB Blaster soak, and rotating the pivot it freed up.
I gave it a good soaking with lubricant and re0installed - works great now.

thanks again!

Jumping on this thread to ask a question, hope the original thread starter is ok with this! My 70 911 Targa has the same interior door mechanism as the photo. How is this mechanism modified to take a leather RS style door handle/pull?

This is probably a simple modification however, finding an answer is challenging?? The part that protrudes from the door would need to be removed or modified if a new door card is fitted with an RS style door pull, then what does the door pull attach to? Apologies if this is obvious but I'm struggling! Thanks
