Remote Starter & dead engine questions

well I am gonna tackle my non-starting SC engine this weekend

I have armed myself with a timing light i have checked everything else

I know I get spark cuz I tested with a sparkplug sitting on the head

I know I get fuel cuz I can smell it in my muffler

so...some questions

I have a remote starter swtich...a button with 2 wires coming out of it...I got it because it is pretty hard to crank the engine and use the timing light by myself...

the instructions are pretty shady...it is all for GMC, AMC, K-cars, etc...

they do have 2 that look like the 911 setup

that have a method for attaching the wires directly on the starter...
or another way to attach one to the coil and one to the Battery ground

I've tried the coil battery one...they have you attach one side to the wire coming out of the center of the coil and the other wire to the battery ground...also the battery terminal on the coil is disconnected...I tried this one and it doesn't work

I did have to use a jumpercable wire from the battery to the starter switch because it was not long enough...is this a fessible setup??

if not anyone have a way I can hook up the starter switch??

Another question...I am cranking over the motor and I have to do it for a couple minutes to get oil pressure...

the engine turns over with a smooth sound...then get more "pulse"-y...

I cranked it over for a while cause it sounded like it wanted to catch...
some guys have posted they cranked new engines for 15 minutes...I haven't done it that long because I am afraid to hurt the starter motor....
should I just keep on cranking away???

well thanks in advance...I want to get this on the road and reap the benifits of the 964 cams!!! plus I pulled all my A/C stuff!!!

MJ

I can't answer the remote starter question, but I do know that you don't want to crank the starter for that long. I would think 30 seconds max. Otherwise you will burn it up.

new motor or justa non starting problem?

hook the remote starter across the hot battery lead at the starter and the key signal. you'll have to leave the key in the run position, but i would not leave it there with out running for more than a minute.

i agree with makio, running the starter for over 30 seconds is detrimental. let it cool between tries.

clean the plugs ( blue spark good - gold spark bad )

hold it to the floor and try it. a open intake will let the motor spin faster and she might catch.

Stay away from connecting anything to the coil, the CDI system is too expensive. Make the remote starter wires long enough so they reach the starter solenoid. Hook up the positive on the rear fuse panel (Left side engine compartment) However, the ignition has to be on so that the cold start valve is activated. (I think)

Gunter is very right. Unfortunately, his advice may be too late for your coil/CDI. Remote starter switches need to be connected at the solenoid. That isn't so easy to reach on a 911.

The Yellow #50 solenoid lead from the ignition switch goes through the 14-pin connector and is fairly easy to find in the relay/CDI panel wiring ...

A permanent remote starter switch is an easy addition to the relay panel.
