Excellent idea.

I have one suggestion to add upon Jazzbass ideas.

Along with the running total you could also have a savings total. i.e. what the parts would have cost you if you had purchased them separately.

As matter of fact, you could even do this across your whole parts line. This will focus your customers to figure out all the parts they may need before they pick up the phone so that say ,three different phone calls, three different invoices, three different shipments turn into one.

To be 100% honest, the goal is to get people to buy more parts - not to buy more parts cheaper. It doesn't make any sense for us that way. The pre-assembled kits will have some minimal amount of savings (see previous posts), and I may offer a coupon when the person is done 'assembling' their custom kit. Our prices are already pretty good for the service level that we offer. This tool will be used to help you assemble a parts list - not necessarily a 'kit' that will save you $$$. Assembling custom kits like these would actually cost us more money than would a pre-fab kit that we can assemble beforehand...

I like it. I'm assuming you're going to have some sort of validation, so they don't order one bit for a '70T and another for an 89 930. Maybe some sort of on-the-fly javascript validation, so each successive set of options is based on the prior selections.

Right - there will be built-in order checking...

I like the Idea Wayne, perhaps you can look at packaging the performance upgrade scenarios from your "Rebuild and Modify" book.

Wayne,

Put together one for a 356 rebuild and I'll jump on it.
