Original 911 Secrets Revealed

Anyone have any experience or knowledge of The Original 911 Secrets Revealed Buyers Guide written by one Adrian Crawford? It looks like it's only available as a download, and I can't see any way to preview it before purchase.

Jeez, it only covers from 1984 to 1989!!

Search this BBS and I am sure you will find all of the information plus a ton more than what is available from a $40.00 download.

As quoted from Adrian Crawford:

"I had to learn the hard way, but for $39.95 you don't have to."

Instead, you can learn the inexpensive way because the Pelican BBS is 100% free!!!!

There's no way in heck that I would pay $40 for a book like that. Besides this BBS and the Rennlist both of which will have most of the same info, there are at least 2 commercial buyers guides (I wouldn't waste my money) or you can buy Bruce Anderson's book and read chapter 2, or you can get the Excellence with the mid years 911 buyers guide.

There is too much cheap or free info available to pay $40 for the same info. Besides, I doubt he's even got all of the info from this board in his book.

If you read the description...

Get it now, over 40 pages of information and pictures
That works out to $1 a page. Can you imagine if you had to pay $1 a page for Wayne's book? I'm sure Wayne would like to imagine that.

While everything you need to know has probably been covered someplace on this BBS I don't think it is reasonable to expect the first time buyer to piece everything together.

To anyone looking to buy their first 911 I always recommend that they get Peter Zimmerman's book "The Used 911 Story". It is really the very best guide for 911 shopping. It has the VIN's the engine numbers and the differences years to year, how to judge bodywork, what's involved in doing heads, etc. It can be a little hard to find but if you are too lazy to get this little book (it fits in your shirt pocket) you deserve whatever you get for woes. Try Barnes and Noble's web site.

I've bought a car from Adrian and he is very knowlegeable on the cars his guide covers.

To find out if it has more information than this board offers someone has to bite the bullet and buy. But I don't think the guide is really aimed at the typical Pelican.

The Zimmerman book was good in its day but it could use a serious update all the way through instead of just tacking on the latest cars on the end, as happened in the last two editions.

Wayne, this site rocks! I'm not an owner yet, but you can bet that when (not if) I am, I'll be coming here first to purchase anything I need, and hopefully in time I can give back something to this community which has been so helpful in my quest.

Now what I would pay $40 for is a book written by a retired Porsche factory engineer that had inside knowledge from the 70's and 80's. I'm sure there would be some great stories about how certain parts of these cars got designed.

Hey Rob,
Good to see a fellow Canuck on this site. I'm a transplant from the Fraser Valley down here on my California adventure. You are in an incredibly beautiful location there.

"inside knowledge from the 70's and 80's" - Frere had access to the factory and I think some other authors did also.
