Question 1989 Alarm Bypass

I have a 1989 with alarm problems. Intermittently, especially the middle of the night, the alarm likes to go off a few times, stop, then start back again. I would like to bypass the factory alarm. I have gotten access to the alarm but I am not sure which to bypass as this is a 1989 with the “newer” alarm. A previous post alluded that I can just jump 87a to 15. Is this correct and all I need to do? I don’t have 61 to 61 like older cars.

A pic of what my alarm module looks like from another post

Thanks!

Check out the link below to an earlier thread where this is discussed with some step-by-step guidance. Hope this helps you out a bit.

How do I disable/remove alarm?

i don’t believe what you posted applies to 1989, hence why I posted the question and clearly stated 1989. The alarm modules are different between 88/earlier and 1989.

My car is an 88, I understand your module is different. But when I unplugged mine, the car wouldn't start. I then jumpered two pins per instructions, and it started. So if you have a guess as to which pins are right for your year, I see no harm in just trying it. In my case, after I unplugged the box and it wouldn't start, I initially just plugged it back in and it was fine again until I determined which pins needed to be shorted.

My 88 alarm still works and I use it all the time. If your alarm is set and intermittently alarming, the weak link is the door jamb and trunk contact switches which turn on the interior lights. I replace these every few years. If your interior or frunk lights don't turn on immediately when you open them the switches are getting sticky and need service/replacement. If your alarm is alarming with the alarm off, it could be a faulty master alarm key switch in the driver's door. You might take that to a locksmith/electrician to see if it is repairable. Good luck.

I’ll check the contact switches. The alarm is going off when it is not suppose to be armed. 1989 don’t have key at drivers side door.

Is it a 964? How do you arm it?

No, not 964. The alarm is armed by locking the doors.

For those people in the future searching this thread. I jumped pin 87a to 15 only. Car starts normally. I put everything back together and will see what happens. If I don’t update this post, then I didn’t find any issues.
