There are plastic bushings under the shifter and in the rear of the tunnel on the transmission coupler that wear and may need to be replaced.

Those shifters themselves are fairly bullet proof. There are upgrades that can be done to the shifter itself. Seine gate kit is good and there are a couple of short shift kits, the factory one being good.

If you spend some time searching there have been a number of threads discussing this.

YES You research this and it becomes a fun DIY project.

Many of us have been through this.

I used an oem short shifter kit and a WEVO coupler and a set of new plastic bushungs. AND research.

Which is why there is no shop which advertises itself as a shifter rebuilder. Any mechanic can do what any other mechanic can do, and for that matter what any DIY guy can do if he sets his mind to it.

So - the rebuilder is you. If you simply aren't interested, or fear you are all thumbs, take the car to any of your local Porsche shops.

Somewhere there is a tutorial on "blue printing" one of these shifters. Maybe someone can find it and link it here.

What I would suggest is to get the factory short shift kit. It will come with instructions and tips on a rebuild.

Seriously consider that Seine gate kit.

Highest probability is plastic bushings

We very seldom see shifting problems caused by worn or broken parts in the shifter.

The cup bushing under the shifter and the plastic bushing that supports the long, tunnel shift rod are the most likely problems, third place goes to the infamous shift rod coupler, which can be rebushed.

As mentioned, our. Host has a tutorial on this topic - very straight forward.

There are several upgrade options if you do have a problem with the actual shifter.
