Show me your narrow body wheels!

I'm working on an early (1968) narrow body project and want to get ideas for wheels. Show me what you got and include size, tire size, offset, etc.

Here is my '72 with Boxster wheels. 16x6 ET55, 16x7 ET40, 205/55, 225/50 Dunlop Star Spec, 1" bolt on adapter on the front, nothing in back. I use it for street and DE. I have had these wheels on there since around 2000. They work great, no rubbing ever.

Naturally, your '68 is the "super narrow body", so I can't say if these would fit as well on your car.

Good luck!

Roger

The top pic. shows my 15 X 6 with 185/70 Toyos

The second pic. actually shows 16 X 8 with 225/50 Contis. Way to big and lots of rubbing...

I switched the second set with 205/50 Dunlops... much better handling and no rubbing.

here's a pic of the project i'll be working on. i added some decals in photoshop to get some ideas of what i want to do. i'm thinking the outlaw wheels look pretty sweet but am interested in possibly a fuchs/minilight combo too.

68 SWB: Rears have been widened to 7" with a 34 mm offset. Fronts have been widened to 6". Tires are 205/60/15 on all 4 corners.

My vote gets the widened 6&7 steelies like on post #6. It would look awesome on your 68.

Vern, any rubbing in the rears? I have 16x7's with 225-50-16's and they rub, I'm thinking of going with 205's.

It is possible to get 15x8s or 16x8s on a narrow body car, but they're not going to be off the shelf fuchs. It's not well know that its possible. Basically, you take a pair 15x7s or 16x7s and weld an inch of back space on them. I know that Harvey Wiedman can make them because I have four. He makes them specifically for the narrow body cars. Depending on how low your going to make your car, you may have to roll the fenders. I think Clint Smith at Rebel Racing also makes a 8x17" wheel for a narrow body car. The attached link shows Clint's car, and I'm pretty sure those are 8" rims on the back. I think his fenders are rolled as well

Good luck!

Might be nice if I post the pic of my car, as I said, 16x7's with 911 offset all around, 225-50-16's. To fit, I rolled the fender lips. I also run a lot of neg camber for autocross, and they still rub in the rear. Looks good though!

I've never had any tire rubbing. I have the rear camber set at -2 1/2". I've run 205/50/16 as well as 55/16 and no rubbing on either size.

I've seen some narrow body cars with 16x8 951 Fuchs. Their offset adds the width to the center of the car so you can get a wider tire under there.

I believe 7R wheels are currently trading at a similar price per/ounce as gold, assuming gold hasn't fallen too much

There sure is a lot of folks who don't know what an early narrow body is.
