Car Care Products

I know this is probably not the best place to post this but I've looked thorough other posts and can't really find anything. I'd like to know what other people use to keep their cars looking good. Hopefully, there's some kind of general consensus. Right now, I want to protect my door seals (I have an '88 3.2 Carrera) which are still in good shape. I'm concerned though about the rubber seals between the cowl and front fender, at the base of the "A" post, which are starting to harden . Ideas?

I use Honda Shin-etsu Silicone Grease on all my rubber seals. A little goes a long way.

I've been using baby oil on all my rubber seals for years. Keeps them soft.

As far as the seal between the fender and cowl goes. I don't think that is rubber?

Have you tried asking in the Paint, Bodywork & Detailing Forum - Pelican Parts Forums ?

Either the Nextzett, or the Shin Etzu silicone products (both mentioned above) are the best to use. Basically, anything with silicone is the way to go. The door seals are EPDM sponge rubber, and any petroleum based oils will not be good along term (especially sulphur-cured EPDM, which they most likely are). They will eventually swell and the process oils in the rubber compounds will leach out. Silicone is inert, and will not have that effect. I am not as familiar with the cowl seals; but they may be a thermoplastic (TPV or TPE, stiffer durometer), and are naturally harder. The silicone will help in any case, though.

Areospace 303. Full stop. It was designed to condition the seals in the space shuttle.
Use it on everything rubber, vinyl, plastic... except your tires. You don't want them "jet fooking black"

Glycerine - the kind you get from a drugstore - is also good for seals. It's a plasticizer, and dry seals will suck it up.
