Rear window seal - will 993 Glue on seal work?
Still in parts collecting mode, just came to wonder whether the standard '89 rear window can be attached to the car using the 993 glue in seals like what I have used on the front windshield of my '75.
In the front windshield set up, you use 993 glass (or at least I did) and it worked quite well, reduced wind noise, likely better water sealing and probably helped a bit with chassis stiffness. Has anyone used the '74-'89 rear window glass and glued it in using the 993 seals? Also curious about whether the side glass can be glued in the same way. Thanks! Hey Dennis,
Even though nobody responded to your questions, did you find out anything on your own? Can 84-89 911 rear window be installed with a 993 seal? Or, can a 993 rear window be used with a 993 seal on an 84-89 911? Of course, these are different questions that might both be answered yes, or both be answered no. I had great success with a 993 windshield using 993 seals and glue, and with 993 seals on my side windows on my 87 911. Now, I just have to find some information about the rear window and the seal. Cordially, Greg

No, i have not found out anything further....I know that the front windshield works find (993) as I have done it as well, but nothing about the rear.
I just got the car back from paint and will to a trial fit of my existing'89 rear window, but I suspect that the glass will be too small to use the 993 seal....and i am reluctant to buy a 993 rear window unless I know for sure it will work. Thanks for responding Dennis |

No it will not but 964 seal will work on 911 glass. That is what I have on my 78sc with no problems.

Hello Sebscst,
Could you say a little more about installing the 964 seal on the 911 rear window? Did you do it yourself or have it done professionally? What method was used, rope, etc.? And, was any glue used? Does the 964 seal eliminate the metal trim? Finally, is it completely leak-free? I'm sorry if these questions seem superfluous, but I just want to make sure before I jump! Cordially, Greg

Yes me and a buddy did it. First we fit the seal on the windshield. We used a Porsche brand 964 seal with a factory windshield. This type of seal does eliminate the metal trim. Then we used 3m strip caulking at all 4 corners of the window frame. We formed it to about 1/2 wide by 1/4 thick and extended it about 1 inch past this radius. Then we just installed using the rope trick. No leaks no issues perfect fit. I also have the 964 seal on the front windshield but that has 964 glass. On rear quarter windows I have the 993 seals with 911 glass. They are not glued in and hold find at speeds up to 130mph so far
