Frunk light switch / hood removal

When removing the hood, it seems you must uncrimp the ground wire from the frunk light switch.
- The switch wire is integral to the little light harness
- It doesn't seem you can separate just that wire.
- The switch threads into the hinge from the opposing side
- The switch wire is crimped to the back of the switch.

Am I blind to something obvious? It seems crazy that you should uncrimp a connection for this type of procedure.

Removing the hood, leave switch and lamp in place, then if needed draw out the wire loom sleeve (say if you’re going to paint) or just tape them up from tangling or snagging. So if you’re just creating some working space and temporarily removing hood, leave the switch and lamp attached.

Yours is a bit different than mine - but basically should be same;
Disconnect terminals at the bottom of that covered black plastic protective wire sleeve (that attaches to the main lighting loom).
The trunk lamp/switch wiring is in a short length of protective sleeve.
They should all connect at or around the bottom of the trunk in the corner - just follow the wires down, you’ll see the connectors or spades terminals.

If you do pull the wire sleeve and threaded switch/bulb housing out of the hood - Take photos so you know which terminals to reconnect and how to fish that wire sleeve back into its position.

I understand what you say, but can't reconcile against what's there.
At first, I disconnected the wire spades at the light fixture, as you mentioned.
Then, with some room between the hinge and hood, started to pull out the little wire bundle.
But, that was proving pretty difficult. It was hard to get it all to pull through the tight bends. So, I gave up. Even doing so, to remove the wire bundle from the hinge, would mean guiding it all through the switch threaded hole. Not sure it would go.
I finally uncrimped that light switch connection.

But that seems a little crazy. You can't remove the hood from the hinge without either:
1. pulling the little wire harness and black sleeve out of the hood (surprisingly difficult)
2. or, uncrimping the switch wire from the switch

I don't expect to ever need to do this again, but I think I'll add a tiny 1" wire to the switch, and add a spade connector in line.

I look at these cars as optimized for assembly, not repairs. I’m not sure the German engineers considered removal and replacement of parts. Maybe they assumed it would work forever.
