Is the Headlight Washer toggle switch spring loaded?
Cannot find this information on the various sites - is the Headlight Washer Switch part number 911 613 319 03 a toggle switch that is spring loaded or does this switch work as a traditional On/Off toggle?
I assume it is spring loaded. Am trying to find an On/Off Porsche toggle that fits into the same dashboard slot for my rear heater fan. I don't like the auto-start switch used at the heater control levers between the seats as I don't always want the fan on when the heat levers are up. Thanks in advance for confirmation and any recommendations for that slot in a Porsche switch. ![]()

I know some have used the rear wiper switch as I believe that has the on/off you are looking for. Size though not 100% sure. I don't have my car here but went down this path wiring up similar for my manual oil cooler fan. Used a factory switch in the same manner, but remember some look the same but have minor differences size wise. Plus it will have all the connections you will need on the back end. Power, ground, relay, what have you. Something to research maybe. Erik

Headlight washer switch is a momentary rocker switch or “press and hold” to activate fluid pump as long as it’s depressed.
This was discussed in a washer system thread. There are plenty of these momentary switches in the generic market with slight differences in mounting clip. The sunroof switch (911.613.622.00) is another that’s a press & hold that possibly could be swapped if sized the same, terminals probably are different and I see these later models have the imprinted symbols. |

The electric mirror switch is a rocker that changes to one mirror or the other to adjust the mirrors. That would work for you. Just leave one side not connected and that is the off.

Yes it would work but it has a different size. I just checked on my car and the spring-loaded switch for the light washer is smaller. The bezel is about 15mm x 24mm, so the hole in the dash is probably something like 13mm x 22 mm.

Thanks to all of you I love this forum!
I think I will go with the Electric Mirror Changeover Switch (911 613 321 02) and the "Frame" for this switch (911 613 615 01 01C) and install these in the original position on the underside of the dash, just above and to the right of the ignition. I must say my plain Jane SC is full of covered holes for neat additions (2nd mirror; sunroof; rear wiper; headlight washer) but I chalk that up to a lighter car... ;>

Is the Headlight Washer toggle switch spring loaded?
Prolly late to respond but it is spring loaded. I just took one apart and removed the spring to make it non-springy regular on/off for a cooler fan. I gutted the headlight washer system decades ago. But now I have a nice auxiliary switch that retains an OEM spot. I used a 60s Dymo label maker to make on/off markings on the switch. Looks perfect.
Btw, the mirror switch and washer switch are the same size! At least in my 84. Last edited by Koizumi; 09-23-2025 at 04:45 PM.. |

Got the correct part, the Change Over switch for power mirrors 911 613 321 02, and installed this into the slot for the Headlight Washer switch (between and below the clock/speedo gauges). Works like a champ.
You would need to pull the tach to access the slot from the backside and view/slide the wires out into the trunk then back into the car. 16g wires, sheathed, make for a clean professional result. The switch is a tight fit so used some silicone based easy glide to snap it into place. Use an Xacto or similar blade, sharpest you own, and cut an X through the dash material of the slot, then capture the points (four) of the material and pulling very slightly draw your blade down the four sides, each in turn, for a clean cut. The switch has some overhang so it pins the material below it and you could not tell if it was factory work done in 1978. ![]() Thanks to the forum for help here and the part number 911 613 615 01 01C that I thought I needed (above) is free to whoever responds to the Classified ad I am about to place.
