:D LOL! Could you arrange for your people to drop one off at my house? ;)

Oh $hit, and i thought i had problems:(

Chuck Miller at Millersport in Hillsborough, NC should still have my replacement rear clip (it went with the shell when I gave up on repairing it myself). It came out of a later galvanized car. I had drilled some of the spot welds out already. I paid $500 for it from a partsyard in Florida.

I fabricated my own panels and welding them in. The rust was not as extensive as yours. The rear deck was completely gone in the driver's corner.

You may do better checking and calling ads in the back of Pano or Excellence. I would not do anything other than weld in new panels if it is a street car. Add a cage and the options get better. Please don't fiberglass over the whole area. repair it correctly, especially since you can weld. With the right panel it would not take long to fix. |
Way to have a good outlook on it Shawn!
I love it.. to HEll with soft, quit cars.. make it light and mean.. and then all the guys with the "soft nancy boy cars" will oogle for your performance.. look at cars like Tysons "Scruffy" Jacks "BBII" my own baby "BABBAR" named after the old Cartoon Elephant they are light and and angry and purposeful!!! SO I say stick with the light, fast and LOUD theme! hahaha I'll see ya around sometime i am sure.. we will all have to plan a gathering soon this summer.. Later! Eric good luck on the fix. .. |

I know how you feel, I discovered the same thing on my 72 after i had purchased it. I cut out the rusted areas and welded in replacement panels that the shop fabricated.

Restoration Design
Restoration Design looks like a good place to get your panels. Let me know how it works out if you decide to get them there. You're close enough to Michigan so it should work out!

I gots a 75 targa dats fixin ta git da knife! muuhaha!.....I believe it has the metal you need. If you want to shuck out shipping,I'll give the sheetmetal to you.I'll be using a cutting torch,so I'll remove wider than you need. You can straighten up the edges with a grinder\cutoff wheels, sawzall, plasma cutter, etc.Let me know what, where, when, and how.Don't ask for pics,I don't have a camera.Sorry! Oh...for what its worth...a TIG welder would be the way to go on welding in the new panel.Far more control over heatand the mixing of the metal.Less warping, etc.Let me know! Charles

You are the man Charles - this is a great place.
|
I was gonna suggest Dart Auto in Denver but Charles offer would obviously be the way to go.
|
Charles,
That would be awesome! I think the rear shelf is different on a targa but the firewall and seat buckets should be the same. I will e-mail you my address. Let me know on the shipping. Man I love this board!http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat3.gif |

How about Dumbo? The little gray elephant that FLYS>>>>>>>>
|
Dumbo? I thought your car was looking like the Fred Flintstone mobile.
;-) Seriously, when considering the shipping don't forget to look at Greyhound as a possibilty. Relatively inexpensive for larger items and fast. |
Charles and I are currently working out the logistics. Looks like I may have the part sometime next week. My goal is to have it welded in before April 19th. Our caravan to the Porsche dealer and get free stuff event!

after reading your post, I thought I would check this area on my car. My 1974 just came home yesterday from the body shop complete w/ flares and new shiny mexico blue paint...looks great.
as I started poking around teh area under the seats felt spongy...the seat fell apart dropping horse hair everywhere. To say the least I was a bit anxoious. I pulled up some of the insulation and "wheew" thank goodness there was solid metal underneat...albeit soaked. The body shop ethier while wetsanding or washing the car let water run into the cabin area (windows out) long story short they ruined one side of the insulation and perhaps the seats...old probably bad anyway. I was very relieved but dissappointed at there carelessness. bright side car and flares came out quite nicely pics later |
