All is right with the universe now (Wayne's stolen 914 is back home)

Yes, that's right. I still owe everyone the full story, but here's the synopis:

- Wayne's car got stolen. See link here: Wayne's 914-6 Conversion -> STOLEN!!!
- Wayne tracked down the guy who stole it.
- The police (CA Highway patrol) arrested him (helicopters were involved!)
- The car was still missing (the guy refused to tell us where it was)
- A year or two later, it was found in a stolen trailer attached to a stolen truck
- The insurance company refused to let me buy it back from them - it had to go to auction.
- Wayne bought it back at the insurance auction
- Got it home, stripped it and sent it to be painted (that process has taken about a year!)
- Got it back from the paint shop last Thursday, and now it's home in my garage!

Been getting the garage ready for a few things, it hasn't been cleaned thoroughly since I wrote the 996 and Boxster book in the garage. That's closing in on 7-8 years now!

VEX robotics table that we built for the kids to practice in the garage:

VEX robotics parts ready to go (these are useful and inexpensive organizers from Harbor Freight):

Our CAD station, complete with Scorbot robot, Makerbot 3D printer, and an oscilloscope (a $200 Chinese one - it's very, very good - I've been pleasantly surprised):

Makerbot 3D printer, and check out all of my organized boxes (it's about time!):

Requisite warning message not to touch any of the 914 parts stored on the shelf:

Bicycle tucked safely away in the ceiling using a Kradl lifting system, combined with a standard rope-and-tackle system that I picked up at West Marine:

For those of you who are wonder what it's going to look like when it's done, we're creating a near replica of this real-life Porsche 914-6 GT. The only thing I'm planning on changing is making the sticker on the side a meatball instead of a white square (oh, and adding some meatball illumination lamps too).

So how did things net out financially.... insurance proceeds less purchase at auction less refurbishment... did you make out okay or end up losing in the end? BTW, great color!

I think he ended up winning no matter what the $ amount is as you just cant replace a personal item like that. I hope he did come out on the long end of the stick but i have the feeling that what really mattered was getting THAT car back. You can build or buy another one but it's not the same and hey look at the story he has to go along with it.

Wayne that is awesome you got her back and can sleep soundly at night.
What happened to the scumbag that stole it, did he get his just reward ?

Glad that it all worked out good for you. That car is unique and definately worth the effort to recover it...even if it costs a bit.
Keep us posted with pics as you finish it.

Not Wayne's, but I've been using a Rigol DS1054Z which I really like. $350 vs. $200, but it's 4 channel, and I use all 4 of them...

Digital 'scopes are so nice, you can dump datalog and screenshots via USB, differnet colors for differnet channels, so nice!

Literally, I spent hundreds of hours tracking it down. I had about $60K into the car financially, not counting about 1,500 hours working on it from before I even started Pelican. I bought it back at the auction for $22K and change, so financially it worked out okay, but I certainly would have rather not gone through that process...

He was out on parole for rape, and we put him back in jail. In jail is when my PI went to go talk with him, and he refused to tell us what happened to the car (what incentive did he have?).
