Car Chase Movie - Name it/Rate it
HELP!
I was at a Frys Electronics checking out a Sony big screen projection TV (bought a bar frig instead - it was cheaper), and caught a movie that involved the LAPD and CHP chasing a yellow 73 fastback Ford Mustang GT. Not a great chase like Bullitt but it was long and had a lot of bent metal. What is the name of this movie and how would you rate it? Thanks Sorry, but the part of the movie that I saw had zippo Porsche content. |

Sounds like the original "Gone In Sixty Seconds" IMHO the second-best car-chase movie I have ever seen.
Haven't seen that version in over 20 years so I can't recall any P-Car action....might have to go check it out. Randy

"The Blues Brothers"
I think that movie has the best car chase ever.

Chase or race? Has to be Against All Odds with the race between a 911 Cab and a Ferrari. Awesome stuff.

Ronin raised the bar for all car chase movies. Very sad that John Frakenheimer died today, he was a true car buff...Frankenheimer spoke fluent French, cooked French food and tooled around Los Angeles in a Mercedes-Benz pumped up to 750 horsepower. He assembled miniature cars which he displayed in glass cases at his Beverly Hills home . He also gave us Grand Prix, probably one of the best car racing movies...ceb

Ronen is it. A renault chasing an M5, Audi chasing Mercedes then getting blown up by a rocket launcher. All along the Southern France.

All those mentioned are great but my favourite is still "Rendezvous". The short of a guy driving a Ferrari flat out through Paris at night.

Haven't seen them all, but Ronin is the best I've ever seen- maybe Bullet is equal. Ronin is such a great genre film even w/o the chases, but the woman driving the euro-spec M5 the wrong way on freeway through Paris at warp-speed is the biggest automotive rush I've ever seen on film. Sorry to hear about John Frankenheimer, rest in peace.

I'll vote for "Against All Odds" also.

For the fun side....how about "The Italian Job"?
A bunch of Mini's screaming through Rome in rush hour using roads, sewers, pedestrian malls, etc. Very funny. For my own pick for best chase....Ronin. And by chance..I have it on DVD and watch it about once a month. Second would be Bullit...old time favorite, always will be. Bob

I sort of liked the scene at the beginning of Mission Impossible II with the 996 cab and Audi TT, though the 996 was tiptronic.
Anyone remember that chase scene in Octopussy with Roger Moore on the Autobahn in an Alfa GTV and the cops in a BMW 5 series? I always liked that one. It wasn't much, but I liked that clip in Top Gun of Kelly McGillis in her 356 catching up to Tom's crotch rocket bike. I also seem to remember an episode of TJ Hooker with a 911 or 930 decent chase scene too.

"Bullitt" was on this morning in the wee hours. As soon as chase scene was over, time to move on. There was some Porsche action...well not really action. McQueen's girl friend drove a yellow 356 convertible.

While not really a "chase scene", the part in No Man's Land where D.B. Sweeney's character road tests Charlie Sheen's cabriolet through the hills late at night is awesome. Later in the film, there's that spectacular chase where Sweeney and Sheen are driving a stolen 930 and the rival car theives are chasing them in a Camaro and a Lincoln!
Great 80s stuff...Ronin was great. I almost preferred the 450 SEL 6.9 vs the Peugeots to the Renault vs BMW M5. They were both great. The Audi S8 struck me as a high-speed Panzer. If anyone wants to create their own chase scene, go buy a copy of Grand Theft Auto III. You'll split your sides laughing at some of the things you can do in it.

At least in M.I.2 someone is driving the ass off of a 996. Made me like the car a little more.
I don't remember "Against All Odds" as being anything spectacular at all, compared to some of the other movies mentioned here. Just a couple of guys going fast on Sunset Blvd., you can see that every day. (Sometimes I do it). Now, "Ronin", that you ain't gonna see anytime soon in real life!

1 SuperSpeedway- Mach 2 Edition!!!!
2 Aginst alll Odds 3 MI2 4 Top Gun 5 Blues Brothers Super Speedway is an IMAX film from about 7-8 years ago. The Mach2 Edition is a digitally enhanced, 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio, plus DTS or Dolby Digital. Watching Mario and Michael chasing each other at 200mph is something else. Plus the bonus footage shows how they mounted a 140 pound camera on an indy car and took off the pop off vavle. Can you say 1100 hp!
