Porsche Crest Essential 911 Material

We all probably love to read about our 911's...my question is what would you consider essential to your collection

I have the following books/items now

1) The Used 911 Story
2) 101 Projects
3) BA's Performance Handbook
4) Wayne's How to Rebuild/Modify
5) Bentley Service Manual
6) Porsche Workshop Manuals
7) Panarama from PCA membership
8) Excellence subscription
9) PET6

Is there anything else that a guy needs or should look at?

Kevin

The only thing I have not on your list is Original Porsche 911. Lots of good pre-74 pictures.

I haven't seen it posted here, but I got this from Bentley over the weekend

Dear Porsche Enthusiast,

Finally, the Porsche news you've been waiting for! Porsche: Excellence Was Expected by Karl Ludvigsen will be available September 1st, 2003.

In 1977, noted motoring historian and author Karl Ludvigsen wrote the definitive history of the Porsche company and its innovative and highly successful sports cars. In the intervening years, many other Porsche books have been written but none have come close to the quality and depth of Ludvigsen's work.

Volume I: Ferdinand Porsche began designing automobiles for other companies and progressed to building his own car-with son Ferry-after World War II-before achieving success first with the 356 and later with the 911 on both race track an on the road.

This September, Bentley Publishers will be releasing an updated edition of Porsche: Excellence Was Expected. This new edition includes augmented and edited versions of the 32 chapters from the 1977 book, as well as an additional 29 chapters that cover Porsche's history through 2002. This three-volume, 1,566-page set contains all the photos and artwork from the original version, enhanced by over 1,480 new black and white photos and 144 new color drawings of Porsche production and racing cars which were commissioned specifically for this updated edition.

Volume II: A maturing automaker, Porsche refined its 911 and developed the mid-engined 914 with Volkswagen, while taking outright victory at LeMans with the mighty 917. Then in the mid-1970s, it announced the 930 Turbo and a new line of front-engined cars.

Special Pre-Publication Offer! Order your copy now at BentleyPublishers.com and save $40.00 off the list price. The list price for this set is $239.95, but if you place your order on-line by August 1st, 2003 you will receive a special price of $199.95. Your credit card will be charged once the order is placed. Books will ship upon publication in September. This offer is limited to orders of Porsche: Excellence Was Expected placed through our secure website at www.BentleyPublishers.com.

Volume III: In the late 1980s and 1990s, Porsche adopted all-wheel drive, won in Formula I and reinvented the 911. It also introduced the Boxster and the Cayenne SUV. In the process, Porsche transformed itself from a financially weak firm to a healthy one with a bright future.

Elford's book is good, but more for his anecdotes and observations than any real driving tips. For eye-candy I have a couple of coffee-table type books I enjoy "Porsche, the Fine Art of the Sportscar" and "Porsche the Essence of Performance". Both are filled with great pictures of early and rare road and race cars (as well as later models), with some (not always accurate) information about the marque.

Bentley works for me, and has complete wiring diagrams which is good.

Peter Vann (I think that's his name) has a good book with excellent pictures (he's a photographer).

Lots of good reading suggestions, but how about the owners manual?

ahh the owners manual is actually very interesting reading. It contains lots of technical information compared to a normal manual.

I also like haynes restoration manual but only if you're into body work.

Good one, I have read the owner's manual a few times. Everytime I do I think, "I don't remember seeing that in here before!" It is very informative.

Not sure that I would admit on a worldwide forum (one that many people from Porsche read btw) that you have a copy of PET.

They have sent people very nasty emails recently telling them that this is THEIR in house program and if you have a copy, or especially if someone is selling copies, that it will either be returned or expect a letter or call from their lawyer shortly...

The "edit" button is in the lower right corner of the page...

Joe

Really? Well as far as I know everyone has a copy of the PET. That's a lot of Email. They ought to use it as a marketing tool -- "just look up what you need and hit this button to send your order to the dealer."
That would save the parts counter guys a lot of effort.

exactly I don't have a copy of PET and it took 4 trips to the dealer to get a 14 pin connector for my 73 and they still didn't get it right. At least hershey's right around the corner
