Which way do I turn the distributor to advance the timing?

Simple question really, I just don’t want to go with ‘turn it one way and see if it advances. If not turn it the other.’

Thanks all, Joel

advance would be oposite rotor rotaion.

i would not adjust it with out a light. 'bout 30 smolls at wally world.

So that would be counter-clock-wise?

I have a light, I just don't want to spend any more time at 6K than I need to.

i'm not sure about your vintage. it did change directions at some time. take the cap off and put the car in 4th and push it a little. you should reach maximum advance way before 6k? i would ask john 'the man' walker.

Set it a 0 degress at idle and check the advance. It should be at 35 degrees at6K. The car runs great there. On my 69 i set it 4 degrees ATDC to get 30 degrees BTDC at 6K. Your distributer may be a little different. But if you want it at the factory 30 degrees BTDC at 6K find the idle setting that gets you there. Then whenever you set it you can set it at idle and be confident that it will be correct at 6K. I hated revving to 6k also, mostly because it was too loud.

Hope this helps.
