Need help with a rear light seal issue
I needed to replace a rear light bulb on my 87 Targa, which was easy, but when I had the lens off I noticed the seal around the lamp housing was completely dry and cracking. I ordered a set of seals from our host and today tried to install them. It seems the seal fits over the edge of the housing and the spacing is so tight I don't see how it's possible to get the new seal in. Has anybody done this? Any insights? Thanks.

It's much easier if you remove the housing. There is a lock nut that is hard to get to and sometimes is heavily corroded. If you were able to remove the housing and still no luck, I'd suspect the seal. Did you get the Porsche part? I had no issues when replacing mine.

Removing the housing slightly without disconnecting the electrical connections isn’t difficult. Install the new seal and slide the housing back in. I did that with both sides and it was pretty straightforward.

Great. Thanks. I will try pulling the housing out.

Put a piece of tape on the top side of your bumper so that the light housing doesn't scratch the paint when you slide the housing out.

Plus one on the tape.....it's inevitably grimy in there from grit thrown up by the rear tire.....you will scratch your bumper paint if tape isn't used....
