Where is the Sunroof motor?

Where is the Sunroof motor on a 1984 coupe? My sunroof is not closing on backend where supposed to lift up tight to seal from water. I unzipped the headliner and just saw foam and hard cardboard piece. I couldn't feel where motor is. I would like to crank on the screw on motor to lift rear tight. Any help or pictures would be appreciated. Thanks

My 71 had it in the center of the zipper above the rear window. Probably need to pull back the foam and remove the cardboard to access it. I assume they're pretty much the same from year to year.
If it isn't the motor, its probably a stripped cable. They are a worm gear through the aluminum channels. if my memory serve's me. Not an easy project to repair, but doable. Just take your time. Funny what you remember. Must be 45 years since I did that repair.
There's probably a post on the subject. Do a search.
Good luck.

The motor is behind the zipper in your headliner, as far as it not lifting the back that is probably not a motor issue but the part ont cables that lift the rear. Pop off the inside cover on the sunroof and you should be able to look in at it, I believe. Taking the sunroof out is not a hard job at all, neither is replacing the cables or the motor, everything is pretty easy to understand and straight forward

For at least ten years, my sunroof has done as you describe (the trailing edge does not fully lift), so I just push up on the middle-back portion of it with one hand while operating the switch with the other - always lifts into, and stays in position that way. Since that's worked so well all these years, I've never looked into what is actually preventing it from lifting (although I have adjusted the overall height of the sunroof, as well as making all sides parallel.
