I was reading through Porsche's website on the new '03 GT3 and I am very impressed with what looks like the most worthy (atmo) waterpumper yet. 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, top speed of 190mph
![]() The very first paragraph made me smile, where the factory says: "One of the most accomplished naturally aspirated engines we've developed for the road, this compact unit features ultra-lightweight titanium conrods, a dedicated oil cooler system and dry sump lubrication with an external tank." With the exception of Ti conrods, we're talking the same as just about every single air-cooled 911 engine ever produced over the last 38 years. I'm glad to see that some things will never change. ![]() The specific power output is very impressive (106bhp/litre) and while there are probably older 911 engines around that pump more power than that, I doubt they're as clean or as user friendly. I wonder if this is because they've built it (like the turbo, GT2 and Le Mans GT1) using the older crankcase from the 993? Don't they have reliability problems with big hp from the stock 996 motor?

Adam,
I still think 'GT3' is a lousy appellation, but this car gives me wood. Matt Holcomb MFIWDP PRVC BOHICA 1974 911 Carrera 2.7 RoW 1974 Ford Falcon GT coupe Dedicated Homepage Engine Rebuild Homepage Porsche Owners Gallery Profile Pelican Gallery Profile |

That photo is absolutely gorgeous... has anyone kept count of how many iterations of the front of the 996 have been produced since '98? I'll bet Porsche doesn't even know.

I'm no fan of the 996 shell, but that whole package is pretty awesome.
Between a 'brand new' 993TT and the GT3, I might go with the GT3.

man if that powerplant just had a huge aircooling fan...I'd be in heaven...
on paper probably one of the sweetest porsches but it just doesn't pull on the heart strings like a good old aircooled 911 sweet car... MJ |

Yep, I'd take a GT3 if I had the cash. Can't say the same for any of the other new Porsche's.

I think it'd be one hell of a road car. Apparently the feel is very raw and similar to earlier 911s.
Richard, there is a good selection of superb quality, high-res wallpapers on Porsche's website. A whole section is dedicated to the new GT3, including the top photo.
