Weird problem with turnsignals on '69E

If you signal left everything is fine. However, if you lift the turn signal stalk to signal, right, the right arrow in the gauge is perfect, but the left arrow in the gauge simultaneously flashes in very rapid bursts. Occurs with or without the engine running. The outside corner bulbs flash as they should at all times. WTF? thanx steve

Check for grounds.
If you use LED’s also could happen

Try another relay. They do weird feedback things sometimes.

I got the car about a year ago, tho' it was in the shop for about 2 months early in my ownership, getting A/C and some MFI work done, so not lots of time with the car. However, I do believe this may have occurred, occasionally, but not consistently at low RPMs, then if you revved her up, that second signal went away.

Just put in LED bulbs! and now, it is a consistent finding. So what are my options here?
Still check for a bad ground? in the gauge or the stalk, or both?

thanx.steve

Hello all,

Seems like the 69 has a lot of electrical issues since it was a year only wiring. On the front or the rear? First to be honest replace the relays. Get a new flasher and the 5-6 relays and replace all. I know it sound drastic but at the long run it will solve a myriad of problems. I had two that worked on and off and it took me a while to figure it out. Small LED's will work fine in the markers(Front and rear sides) and license plate lights (BA9) in our 69's. Double filaments like 1157 are problematic. If you need other LED's I will use Spoke's (another pelican LED's system) Clean all grounds, Front grounds are attached to the square side boxes; in the rears check the rear inside area by the engine bay and behind the the light boxes. Everyone here is giving you sound advise!

Jose

I work on a 69’ 912 and I don’t have the explanation but I had to remove the LEDs.
Just try it. And let us know. Everybody is learning here.

The 912 that I fixed had leds on the signal bulbs. At four corners.
I’m referring to the ones outside. Not the indicators inside (on the gauge)

Rechecked my musings...the 4 corners are working properly...my problem is, almost certainly, in gauge lights and maybe the LEDs. thanx. s
