Clutch release lever: Don't reinstall retainer pin?

Is there any risk not to re-install this retainer pin?

I have a 78 SC which has the retainer pin in the clutch release lever but it is a major PITA to remove (SSI / modified oil lines are not helping) and more recent SC models have a lever without the pin.
Has the design of the release lever changed overtime and do you need this updated release lever or is it ok not to re-install the pin?

By 1980 it’s not even used. Be sure to lube the vertical shaft.

Thanks for the info.

So I assume there weren't any updates to the lever mechanism which explain why the retainer pin is not needed anymore as of 1980.

Interestingly the current parts catalog from Porsche doesn't even list the pin, so I wouldn't worry about it. Between the bottom circlip holding the splined lever and all of the tension coming from the Omega and return springs it's not going anywhere.

When I compared them side by side, they were identical visually otherwise.
