Clutch petal not returning all the way
!977 911 with a !986 engine it. I replaced the whole helper spring assembly. New spring at the petal as well. New clutch cable too.
The pedal now does not return all the way. Seems to have a flat spot. it will return all the way if i pull it up with my foot. Has anyone had this issue before? |
you have a bad adjustment on the little finger with return spring..
Ivan here is some reading https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_clutch_cable/911_clutch_cable.htm |
clutch guide tube? Mine had a notch worn in it and the pedal was sticking on return (reach down and pull and it would pop back)...had to replace the guide tube that the throwout bearing slides on....mine was an 88 930

Spiral Crack -
Hey Terenann - It could very well be the return springs, guide tube or an adjustment issue but you might also inspect the base of the clutch pedal pivot point for a spiral crack. Just a thought but I've seen a few early 911's with this type of clutch pedal return problem.
It's a bit difficult to properly inspect the clutch pedal pivot for a crack without the clutch pedal applied but - it helps considerably if you press the clutch pedal in - then slide the seat forward with a board between the clutch pedal and the "Lower Metal Base" of the seat. With the seat locked in position - a thorough inspection can be made and the potential crack issue eliminated as the cause. Good Luck - Michael |
Terenann. Had the same problem. Just a while back I was readjusting my cruise control clutch switch in the tunnel at the end of the pedal cluster. Since I was there I blocked the clutch pedal all the way out and readjusted the turnbuckle on the end of the clutch cable to take out that slack, fixed it.
