Hi beam flasher ( pull back ) question.

Has anyone had an issue where there turn sig work perfect, low beam, high beam work perfect, but the flasher or when you pull back, doesn’t do a thing?

I have a Momo she’ll the PO installed, before I dive in and look at the switch I’m curios to here your thoughts.

I tried searching it but didn’t find flasher only type threads.

Thx

The factory did not put a relay on the headlights as they should have. If your car has never been upgraded with a relay for the headlights, all the voltage for headlights goes through that switch and burns them up with use. The fix is of course to add the headlight relays, and replace the switch.

When I first got my 911 back in 1995 it was a 10 year old car and not driven much at night. The switch quit working withing the first few months of my ownership. I replaced the switch, added the relay harness, and after 25 years and 100,000 miles of additional driving, the headlights work perfect.

There are threads on Pelican about how to take the switch apart and clean the contacts and some people have luck with that, many don't. Just do it right and one time. Replace the switch, look on Pelican for the headlight relay kit, add that and fix it once and forever.

Take a look at this page: Daniel Stern Lighting Consultancy and Supply

I believe there are several relay kits on the market. Not difficult to install and you will become familiar with your fuse panel, which you should inspect closely at the time of installation for loose screws, suspect fuses, etc. In fact, when I did the relay project I pulled off the negative lead from the battery and cross-referenced the existing fuses, installing fresh fuses of correct amp right across while also making sure the contacts where both clean and tight.

BTW, your dash panel lights are also unfused, another trouble point when smoke starts pouring out of the heat lever area. More about that via a search on this forum.

Are you saying the lack of relay burnt out his high beam stalk contacts? So, he needs a new turn signal stalk?

OP, I've forgotten details, but my high beams were not working (Not sure if it was flash or permanent), but i replaced my turn signal stalk and got back my high beams.

Pics of high beam turn signal replacement (and steering wheel and headlight switch)

The more you pull back the handle to flash, the sooner you might have the self switching high beam problem. The action bends the flat bar that does the hi/low switching. So do it gently if you have to.

So what are you going to do? Are you going to replace the turn signal stalk?

Mine was like that for YEARS, never knew why, I actually assumed that it was disabled or something in US cars.

Turns out that one time when I have the light switch out, I connected a certain wire to the wrong terminal. That wire feeds the high-beams when the lights are off and the stalk is pulled towards you.

Doh!

FOr what it's worth, this was one of the first things I did on my car. I pulled the switch, cleaned the contacts, re-tensioned the strips (fairly obvious once you have it out what needs to go where), and reinstalled. 100k miles later it's still fine.

Well like everything so far, I’ll fix before replacing. I have a Momo wheel the PO put on, looks simple enough to pop off and inspect. I’ll add it to the winter list.

It’s amazing how detailed you get when you can’t drive your car do to winter.

I’ve almost memorized the electrical system by now.

Headlight relays and fusing stuff Togo.
