3.6 Backdate Heat

What have you guys used for backdate style heat (no fan) with a 3.6? We are using the 993 bischoff style manifolds to an M&K muffler and the 993 shroud. I see that many of the ducts were having issues and that a lot of manufacturers aren't even making them anymore.

After seeing this, I think this may be the way we go.

I tried and couldn't get the carbon fiber tube to fit properly so ended up with the shroud piece from Patrick. I'm not really impressed with it for the price. Next time, I'll just make my own.

I have the cf tube and also a kick panel blower added in the driver's footwell. 993 headers. (For weight savings, I don't heat the passenger side.)

Hey Jack,

Did you use the 993 crossover pipe with the CF tube and headers?

Yes and no. I have a lightweight replacement for it that I made. (Since I only need heat on one side, I suppose I could make it even lighter.)

I tried using just the carbon tube in my car, but found the 3.6L fan/shroud assembly did not produce enough pressure to push air to the cabin. Like Jack, I added footwell blowers to help move it along. My setup now is kinda janky and provides lukewarm air at best... a clean, easy solution for heat is one of the biggest hurdles for 3.6L conversions I think...

I think I documented this elsewhere, but here's what I did. Simple, light, and effective. But at this point not the best looking solution.

1) Patrick Motorsport used to make a manifold that you rivet onto the top of the shroud. I used this and some hose I had laying around. These route through the engine tins (I used components of early tins).

2) Ran those hoses through the tins and down to the factory elbows that connected to the heat exchangers.

3) Made a cone-like adapter with sheet aluminum, rivets, etc and more hose to connect up to the flapper boxes.

So far it works down to single digits. Of course you have to be on the gas to make much heat. On a long downhill it can get chilly.

I agree that it's not beautiful, but that solution has the benefit of eliminating the crossover pipe in back, which is fairly heavy (cast aluminum) and about as far back as weight can be. So if that's important to you, it's a step forward.

And there are issues when fitting that crossover pipe with a larger muffler, etc behind an early bumper...
