New Door Stop - Too tight?

Hi All,

I know it's another door stop / door stay question but I searched with no luck. I bought the genuine Porsche door stop kit for my '76 911 driver's door this week. I triple checked and orientation is correct. Everything bolted on & installed smoothly. After putting in the pin, the door will not budge!

I try pushing on the door (putting maybe 50lbs of pressure of my own body weight) but it only bends the sheet metal where the door stay pin is mounted into. Are these just unusually tight? Or did I receive a defective part? Just thought I'd ask before I throw $40 on another one.

The new door stays are annoyingly stiff. But not like you describe. Something is wrong or jambed.

I took my new stays apart and modified them to not be soo stiff.

Are you positive you installed them correctly?

Thanks guys. I tried it again and this time didn't chicken out. I pushed it a little faster and it finally gave.

They are annoyingly stiff. I never experienced such stiffness on any other vehicle. I really hope they loosen up a little more over time.

On another note, the bracket for the pin was overly stretched out, causing the annoying click. Shout out to JWW as the M6 bolt + nylon locking nut did the trick.

Yes, they are too tight. This is how to fix it. Don’t take off too much though.

Door stop replacement.

Yep, that's how I loosened mine.

I don't believe they will get easier with use, unfortunately.

Worth your time, before you rip the guts out of your door sheet metal. Minimizes pin clicking also.
