Antenna
Another '74 Targa owner...
I know of no power antenna that will fit...I stayed with the manual one, it pushes down all the way, (to avoid vandalism) and you have a little "t" shaped key that inserts in the top to pull it up. Where is your city in Illinois?

I have an 80 SC and it to has the manual antenna on the left side. THere is no room for the power antenna on the left. The factory manual provides the info to cut a hole on the right fender to install a power antenna. When I start to put the fenders back on my car I am considering doing the mod just for the convience of the power antenna.

I have a power antenna that looks like OEM it is stamped made in germany, and it is the smallest power antenna that I have ever seen.
There is no other markings so no clue at where it came from.

I think the power antennas that Tweeks currently sells are not the original Hirschman power antennas that were used in some P-cars.
Tweeks sells a lower cost alternative to OEM power antenna. If you want an original Hirschman antenna go to the Becker stereo website they still have a few recondition one. |

My car is a 74 targa and the antenna is on the left front fender.
Tweeka cost is $80. and it is the alternate to OEM that does not fit. Thanks for the Becker tip I will try them also

This is Becker Website
http://www.beckerautosound.com I believe all the manual antennas were install on the left side of the car while all car with power atennas were install on the right side of the car. Had a 74 911 Coupe with manual antenna on the left side Current 82 911 SC Targa has a power antenna on the right side. One reason that Porsche may had move the antenna to the right side is that the drier for the a/c unit is located on the left side and most Porsche 911 shipped to the U.S. came with a/c, unless it was order with the a/c delete option. I don't think even a OEM power antenna will fit the left side. At one time someone made a power antenna were the motor could be mounted remotely (2') from the mast. It was designed for location with limited access. Check the J.C. Whitney Catalog they may still have it. |
