Spring plate - plate or not?

Hi. In the process of doing a bunch of suspension stuff. I got the bushings off using the #hotchiselmethod (tm) and then took a wire wheel to it to clean and polish. I don’t care if it’s immaculate but I am concerned about oxidation or damaged. So since it’s almost there is it necessary to replate it with zinc? Or will it be good the way it is. Not interested in the cool look factor. Durability only.

Yes, by all means do plate those parts. It is pretty common to hit them with a chromate for a nice gold-ish finish.

Shaun (Tru6 Restoration and Design) has done a bunch of 911 work and handled really beat up fasteners from both my '60 BMW R69 and a Norton Commando projects. His work is top-notch.

If I do it I’ll probably DIY. It isn’t hard. My main question is whether or not I need to do it or if the swing arm will be fine.

When I did my suspension refresh, I just cleaned them, and hit them with rattle can black. Only a mechanic can see them. I drive my car on road trips, and I drive through rain storms. The suspension and fender-wells of my car are covered in road dirt. The car is in great shape, but I dive it too much in the rain to ever spend hours cleaning up the suspension parts too much.

I did have the front suspension parts all powder-coated. Only because I was too lazy to spend the time to clean them up enough to paint. I was busy working on the suspension refresh.

The top side is really clean and nice, but the underneath side is dirty. The way a car that is driven should be.

They're bare steel and will rust. Something should be done for corrosion protection.
