Extensive 911 Rebuild Worth Following
A Porsche novice with great metal working skills restores a 911. I think it's a build many would like to follow. No connection - just attracted to his determination and his humility.
Check it out:

$500
Wow, I know it’s rough, but $500? I didn’t think it was possible to find a 911 with an engine and transmission for the 2010 core price of a 915!
Do you know what area of the country this is? I guess a small town could be in a bubble of sorts and have no idea of the price run up the better part of the last decade. I give the guy kudos for trying to save an old 911, but I think he’s in for a rude awakening as far as parts and labor costs go... |

I think he got his money's worth. There is not a single salvageable piece left on that car. The scrapper stripped it clean. Sure take the motor out and disassemble it (labor) and sell some pieces but net the labor you are not making a ton of money. Mag cases and heads in that condition will not fetch much.
Skipping through the first video I thought this guy was joking.. but there is a second video so maybe he is serious. The money (and time) he is going to have to spend on that thing he could buy a rough 15k middie and it will probably run maybe drive.

I’ve been watching this series - I don’t know whether any driveable car will result but looking at it from a ‘he’ll be underwater, no point’ is missing the vibe of these things. I’m enjoying watching someone who knows very little about the cars learn as he goes along. I remember thinking when he said the floors are not too bad that he will have some surprises coming. But he must be used to some serious rust to think they are saveavle.
I can see a rat rod / paddock basher coming out of the thing . Still better than another version of pimp my ride or other crap. |

His latest video covers the floors, there is a little bit of metal left.

Very cool im curious to see how it progresses. Not many people doing rebuilds have a budget. I had a rolling shell that i didnt attempt to rebuild but he has alot more pieces than mine did. Im sure he will have alot of parts come cheap or free because of the videos.

I watched him take apart the rear spring plates and arms. He did some cringey stuff. Like regreasing the rear wheel bearing which should be replaced, and reusing the bushings on reassembly which should also be replaced.
He’s going to need oil lines as they were moving the car around with a fork lift. Its also likely he has now idea what parts are going to cost him....

I love it when the groiund is your work bench!! Maybe it is just my knees are to bad to work on the ground!!!
They have a long way to go and they are much braver that I would be. At least it is only a Targa. Good luck.

Obviously a newb but whatever the outcome, he'll know an early 911 front to rear.
